What does it take to really dissapear?

Gone Forever: What Does It Take to Really Disappear? | Vanish | Wired.com

Its kind of a long read, but its interesting how it all developed. The part below kind of freaks me out though on what they used to find him.

"There are also a few investigators for hire who are still willing to tread in dubious legal areas with tactics like pretexting, an age-old technique. Posing as the missing person, the investigator calls the phone company, cable company, or bank and uses a few of the targetís personal details ó and a measure of charm ó to extract records from credulous customer service representatives. In recent years, Congress has strengthened anti-pretexting and computer-crime laws. But if your life depends on not being found, itís best to assume that your digital DNA is up for grabs."

I think if I went to dissapear, I would probably just grab some cash (but not too much) and head somewhere foreign. Work some menial job and leave simple.

I've given this some thought before, just for fun - here's what I'd do.

I'd hit up a bunch of Check into Cash joints (collecting around $500 at each stop), sell everything I own, withdrawal all savings and pay off some large cargo boat to let me tag along to Europe.

I really dont get why some folks fake their death to get a new life. How hard is it to own up to things and start a new life legally.

Well, when they finally figure out what it takes to completely vanish, I hope they use it on Brett Favre...

Re: What does it take to really dissapear?

you could take your money with you. You would have to convert everything to cash and walk across the border into Mexico as the usually do not search anyone walking through a border checkpoint. You could then deposit the money into a Mexican bank under an assumed name and transfer it to a numbered account in either Switzerland or the Cayman Islands and the US govt would have no way of tracking this. You would also need to stop using you social security number.

if they're walking away from life in the US and trying to hide in Mexico then I think it's probably obvious they're willing to risk it....
