    A Cubs hypothetical..

Ok Cubs fans, lets say Hendry did the following...how much better are the Cubs?

    1. Keep Mark DeRosa

    2. Sign Adam Dunn instead of Milton Bradley

    3. Resign Kerry Wood/don't trade for Kevin Gregg

    Re: A Cubs hypothetical..

    1. I'd say we would be in first place due to team morale being better
    2. It's a push
    3. IMO we're better off with Gregg

A lot better. Team chemistry is not there this year for what ever reason. We had it last year with those players.

Its would be interesting to see, but regardless half the problem with the Cubs are the injury's, mainly to Aramis, half is the chemistry.

    1. DeRo could have filled in for Bradley in right when Milton missed 2 weeks in April without the team putting him on the DL. He also could have filled in for Ramirez when A-Ram blew out his shoulder. Instead, the Cubs tried out Fontenot, Scales, and Miles (yes, that actually happened) at 3rd before finally figuring out that Jake Fox coudl play the position adaquately and swing the bat, something the other three weren't capable of.

    2. I don't have a problem with the Bradley signing. Sure, they're paying him too much (his only comparable offer was 2/15 with Tampa), but it isn't my money. He busts his ***, hustles down the line - he's one of the few players on the team that genuinely seems to give a ****. If you think Bradleys defense is bad (it was initially, but has gotten a lot better), can you imagine Dunn playing one of the toughest right fields in the game, or chasing balls into the corner? Or maybe the Cubs play him in left field - and in that case, can you imagine how Soriano would look in right?

    3. We'll never know. It's easy to say that the Cubs would be better off with Wood, but he hasn't exactly been stellar for the Indians in his limited opportunities. We all saw what happened when Kerry came back with Cleveland in June, right? Gregg may have turned into this years version of Bob Howry, but the league leader for blown saves is Brad Lidge - who didn't blow a single one last year. It's easy to pile the blame on Gregg (and he deserves it), but when the offense blows multiple chances to blow the game open - like it did last night - the closer is walking on eggshells the moment he steps on the field.

Would be in first place, by a couple of games. The injuries still would have a huge impact on them.

I think Dunn would have the same numbers pretty much wherever he ends up. You know what you're going to get, a lot of walks, a lot of strikeouts, a lot of homeruns, bad defense.

But you could have said the same thing about Bradley.

You know what you're going to get, a lot of walks, a lot of strikeouts, a lot of homeruns, bad defense.

He plays for the Gnats and still has 80+ RBI. If he was on the Cubs, he'd have a LOT more guys on base and he's always crushed the ball at Wrigley.

    Re: A Cubs hypothetical..

This season has come down to just two things in my opinion. A shaky bullpen and too many injuries to the high contract guys (Ramirez, Zambrano, Lilly specifically). I still believe that with a halfway reliable bullpen, this team would be sitting a lot better than it is right now...

    Re: A Cubs hypothetical..

Keep DeRo, sign Dunn, and have anyone else in the close role and the cubs are in first.

Just an awful awful offseason for Hendry. I think he is the guy that gets fired for this mess.
