That is brutal. I guess they will complain he cannot win the big game. But then shouldn't the bears fire grossman? Wait yes they should.

Jerry Jones should have waited a week before making his hire.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: Chargers fire Schottenheimer after 14-2 season

BTW, guys....its been long known that Schottenheimer and the Chargers' front office personnel have been at odds. Not about coaching decisions on the field but Marty's attitude and handling of other coaches and personnel. This firing isn't about wins/losses, its more of a personnel issue.

Stupid, to say the least, though. Indeed, who are they going to hire? Norv Turner is the only viable current candidate with experience. I suppose there's always Denny Green....

    Ha! Good point

If I was a hot college coach, I wouldn't jump at the offer of an NFL head coaching job. Why mess with a good thing?

Didnt I hear after their playoff lost, but before the super bowl that Marty was their man. Apparently not.

A move like this is like Tony Dungy getting fired from Indy. Of course he didnt and a good thing.

ESPN says he was fired because of a disfunctional situation between Chargers front office and Marty Schottenheimer.

Exactly... I was just listening to Fox Sports Radio talking about this. Sounds like GM A.J. Smith couldn't stand Schot and was looking for ANY way to get him out. Was a completely disfunctional relationship, I guess. Other potential replacements mentioned are Mariuchi (sp?) and Fassel -- ie NFL retreads. San Diego's also had their assistant coaching staff purged so could be very difficult to find a quality new staff...

While I'm sure it probably can't/ won't happen wouldn't it be funny if he caught on somewhere else really fast and took LT with him. Now that would be some fun drama to watch :)

Re: Chargers fire Schottenheimer after 14-2 season

To many, it sounds shocking, but they've been talking about it for years. This team was the MOST talented team in the NFL this last year. More talented than the Colts, more than the Bears, more than the Ravens...just look at the pro bowl ballots. They could;ve had even more....

They had the best player (LT), best tight end (Gates), a competant QB (Rivers) stellar defense (ranked 2-3 most of the year). Marty is a good coach, but will forever be outcoached in the playoffs...effort of teams like the Pat's is on a whole 'nother level and his system's playcalling is pathetic. A.J. Smith is an extremely smart guy. His draft picks over his tenure makes him look like a genious...so I have no doubt the Chargers will be fine. I bet I'll be in the monority on this one....but good move.
