    Auto Rustproofing, etc.

Thanks again all for the auto insurance info/advice!

When we bought our new Camry, I forgot that they would try to sell you all the warranty, rustproofing, etc. I told them know way I was going to make that decision in 10 minutes so I declined everything. Needless to say, our remaining time together wasn't quite as friendly!!

We are thinking of doing the rustproofing, undercoating, and interior stuff but was wondering if you have to go through an auto dealer or do local people still do that also? The dealership wanted $895.OO for the package but I'm sure I can do better elsewhere or even deal with them on the price?

    Thanks for the help!

Give me a $100 and I'll put a magnet on your car and then go apply the "wax" they have at the car wash.

So I just bought a new car also. It was kinda fun. I walked into the finance guy, sat down, and before I even said my name I said, "lets save the next half hour of our collective time, the answer is no."

He was not happy, he tried a few of their addons, I told him if he tried 1 more, I would grab the sales manager and let him know why I was walking out of the deal. In the end, I was out of the finance group in less than 20 min. The sales girl said that was the fastest she had ever seen.

On a side note, Mazda has to have the worst/thinnest paint in the world. I have 2,300 miles on my car and already have two tiny chips in my paint. My Honda that I had with 50K miles only had one.

The last 3 times I bought a new vehicle, I was never even asked about getting rust proofing or anything. I thought they gave up on that scam long ago.

Did you see the itemized invoice? It may have been rolled into the price already. A lot fewer "no's" that way.

What was the 'interior' stuff ?

If it was stain protection, you can buy a can of that stuff and spray it on yourself...

The only thing you need to understand about extra warranties is that they are highly profitable to the company selling them (and they pay fat commissions to the salesperson). That means you are paying too much for them !

I look at that stuff real close. I love to argue when buying a new car.

I have a big gash in the paint of my new accord. It got hit with a flying shingle in the last storm.

I have heard that newer vehicles are being painted with a water based paint that does not hold up as well as older paints do.
