    Andy Katz POY candidates-Brackins

I think this may be the highest I have seen him on any list. Really big difference from that idiot Vitale having him on what the honerable mention AA team. Lots of very good players in our conference this year!

Andy is just more free of bias than Vitale, thus he seems smarter.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

I'm surprised you didn't mention Wes Johnson. Incredible that ISU could have two POY candidates on this years team.

I also think it's amazing that his top three players listed are all from the Big 12.

I believe his list of 15 that he talks about are in alphabetical order not necessarily a ranking

Yes, I have must forgotten where Andy Katz coached at; Vitale was a great coach at U of Detroit, including making the round of 16 in the 1977 NCAA's. He lost to #1 seed Michigan and Johnny Orr in the last minute 86-81. I doubt the teams were that close in talent.
Pretty sure Dick Vitale has more credibility than Andy Katz...

    Re: Andy Katz POY candidates-Brackins

The constant complaining about "ESPN" in regards to MBB is a bit overdone, IMHO.

We've missed the tourney four years in a row, and have gone 6-10, 4-12, 4-12 in big12 play under GMac - the fact we get any positive coverage is pretty impressive!

ESPN has what, 12 "experts" covering MBB? Guys like Gottlieb and Fraschilla sing ISU's praises as much as they can. Guys like Vitale, Digger, and others...not so much. No biggie.

I like Katz - he's from California, went to school in the midwest (Wisky), and now works for an east coast network - kind of hard to call the guy biased. Plus, last year he mentioned the fact that for the Big12 to really solidfy itself nationally in MBB, it needs ISU to be "relevant" again.

He writes a daily blog, which guarantees he'll tick off at least one fan base every day! If we can knock of Cal, Duke, Tx or KU - Katz will be one of the first national guys around to throw GMac some love. Let's hope that happens.....

Yeah I think your right. And no matter what they say they will all be watching Iowa State this year because they know we have a legitimate chance to be a good team. And I feel out of those 4 teams you mentioned above we'll get at least one of them. @Cal probably wont be the one. But that'd be the biggest one for us only because its on the road. But Duke....would be real big.

You are correct. Pretty stupid that they put numbers next to them then.

Katz is one of the better analysts on ESPN. He is well aware of ISU and Hilton Coliseum's reputation. I heard him say somewhat recently that the Big XII needs ISU to get back to where they were.

Yeah he has shown them some love. I think it was when he said Brackins will regret returning to school when Iowa State wont win the big 12 or a national championship. But did say if he has another real good year will be a top 10 pick. Joe Lunardi is who I don't like. When someone like Gottlieb praised him for turning down money to just make a run at the NCAA tourny.
