    English Premier League opening weekend

I'm a lover of the EPL and also spend way too much time tweaking with my fantasy premier league team. The new season finally began yesterday after the summer off. This is a world cup year, so I hope for a huge year.

Yesterday Chelsea almost lost to low dwellers Hull City, but thanks to a masterclass by my mancrush Didier Drogba they pulled out the win. Check out these two goals! -
    Didier Drogba v Hull
Drogba (2) v Hull - look at the angle!

Arsenal played one of the most dominating games I have ever seen, absolutely destroying last years 5th place finishers Everton by a score of 6-1. Check out these highlights- Arsenal play some beautiful soccer.

This one is 9 minutes but worth it if you have the time-
    Everton 1 - Arsenal 6 (MOTD)

    or, individually,
    Denilson smacker- Denilson v Everton
    And...Cesc Fabregas with 2 goals and 2 assists....what a game
    Fabregas v Everton
    Fabregas (2) v Everton

Andrei Arshavin is a magician...i'm not sure if he meant to pop this off the goal post for Eduardo, but Eduardo plays a great set up run and follows up on his pass...so subtle but so beautiful
    Eduardo v Everton

Anyway, watch EPL! Anyone else watch the games yesterday?

In before the soccer haters. I've been getting more and more into soccer in the last few years, so I'm looking forward to this as well.

Re: English Premier League opening weekend

For those who didn't notice, ESPN just annoucned they will be carrying up to two EPL games per weekend. They had the Chelsea game on yesterday. The schedule through September is linked below. They are also going to show some La Liga games (their schedule starts in two weeks) and are in talks to add the Budesliga. For some, this will be the perfect lead in to college football on Saturdays (college gameday has become unwatchable for me).

I think Arsenal will finally get back on top this year. Arshavin is impressive, Cesc is the best mid-fielder in the league now that Ronaldo left.

Stevie G can only muster a penalty kick goal as the 'Pool lose 2-1 to Tottenham

The Red Devils will be taking another championship back to Old Trafford.

Not to try and take anything away from Arsenal, but that is one of the poorest performances I have seen out of the blues in quite some time. With having one of the top defenses the last couple years some of the play in the back third was just shocking. It reminds me a bit of last year when they got off to a very slow start and had to work their way back up.

Re: English Premier League opening weekend

Yeah, I was more than pleased (and surprised) with the Arsenal result yesterday... I'm not getting too carried away yet though. The new-look formation was great, and players that I have been down on in the past played well (Denilson and Bendtner). Plenty of attacking options, but I still don't think the Gunners have the strength/depth in defense and def. midfield to survive a full season title challenge. However, new-boy Vermaelen and Alex Song were outstanding yesterday in those roles. A big signing or two in those two areas would transform Arsenal into very serious title contenders.

Still can't wait to see how Wenger accomodates everyone in attack: Cesc, Arshavin, Nasri, Rosicky, Walcott, RVP, Eduardo, and Bendtner

Re: English Premier League opening weekend

Im gonna throw this out there now, but watch out for Wigan to be a minor surprise this year. Probably not top 3 or 4 but i can see them surprising a lot of teams. They dismantled Aston Villa this last weekend and their new manager has the look of being a very solid hire. I have seen a Martinez coached team in person and for people that love to see soccer the way it was meant to be played, it doesn't get much better than the free flowing passing that he coaches. Im really looking forward to the Wigan vs Man United game now!!

What I am curious is how you guys picked teams to root for? I have watched some EPL and been to an Arsenal game before in London, but I know that's such a bandwagon team that I am almost embarrassed that I root for them.

I'm excited about the opener and to get up early on Saturdays to watch!

I have been a fan of Man U since Ruud van Nistelrooy played for them, he was such a good player for them.
