    MP3 player

I'm preparing to join the 21st century! All I'm looking for is a good MP3 player that will hold a lot of songs and isn't too expensive (less than $100). Any recommendations?

I think if you get anything other than an Ipod or a Zune you are going to own something cheap and will be disappointed.

    players | Sansa

Sansa players from SanDisk - I think some of them run even as low as 20 bucks. Bought mine when they were about one hundred, but really have not had any problems with mine.

I'm actually kinda in the same boat.

However, I like my cd's and DVD's for nothing more than tangential reasons. Just having the cases and whatnot.

I feel like MP3s without the album is cheap and whatnot. Every album has a bad song, and a cd usually costs $10 or so and has around 13 songs. Seems cheaper to get the entire physical copy.

I'm pretty sure that's what I bought, and it works just fine for me. I'm not a power user, but it doesn't sound like you're planning to be, either.

For the most part, my music will be coming from my own CD's, and only stuff I don't have but like will be downloaded, which isn't a ton.

You're right. Main use will be while mowing and doing projects around the house. That's about it.

    Re: MP3 player

I've had 3 ipods and if I was to do it again I would skip the whole Ipod thing and just go with a player like the Sansa and convert everything to MP3 not AAC.

Not true...Creative makes great players. Better than iPods, IMO.

I think Sansa models would be your best cheap option, though.

Thoughts on this one? I'm not interested in video (I've got five tvs and a laptop for that).

Looks good to me. I think I went even cheaper.

Simple controls and interface. Looks like it attaches to a belt, so it's handy for the mowing and such.

    Seems just fine.

I have refurb that I got for $15 off of buy.com. I needed something other then an ipod for jogging because I was sweating through the arm band and ruined the ipod. Got a sansa clip instead (Plus it was like 75% less then shuffle) and love it. Clip it to the back of my shorts and go. I only use it when I run, and have charged it twice in the last 3 monthes (I run 3-4 times a week) Plus, in WDM at least I get a great radio signal while I run. The only thing that I don't like are the headphones that come with it. I just use my ipod head phones.

    Re: MP3 player

I've had a philips and an ipod. I liked the philips just because I can connect using WMP but the ipod is much easier to get accessories that you might want. Both have had great battery life and have been pretty solid. But, if you want to connect to your car stereo then an ipod is the only one that I've seen that you can control with the car stereo.

    Re: MP3 player

Another vote for a Sansa. They should never be confused as an iPod, Zune, etc. competitor, but they are fantastic, cheap media players. I've had a Sansa e280 for several years and love it. Syncs easily with Windows Media Player and works great.

That said, I'll be moving up to a Zune HD here in a month or so, but I'll still be keeping the Sansa around for mowing.

    Re: MP3 player

I just went to Target and bought a really cheap one several years back. Paid like 60 bucks for it about 3 years ago. Its awesome and still works well.

Then again I only need about 100 or so songs on there.
