How bad is today's music? I just downloaded a Dio song

Holy Diver...for some reason I like this song. I have no idea what the heck he is singing about with regards to riding the tiger...and I crack up a little bit because this was on Southpark once...

But I like how it sounds...next up on my download docket today (seriously): Iron Maiden's Run to the Hills.

Regardless of whether the music is good or not, you just publicly posted being over the hill and having turned a corner to "the music kids listen to these days"

Congratulations on getting this transition logged for posterity.

I turned that corner long ago. I recognize I am fully into my hypocrite years, and my 'back in the day' years. And I embrace it....you see, we enter these years when we realize what is, is what should never be.

Now, time to throw in Houses of the Holy.

Just for some balance...also added Third Day's I Have Always Loved You to my collection as well...that negates any fake evil factor Dio tried to bring to my ipod.

There is a lot of good music out right now too.

There was a lot of crappy music for every generation. Zepplin is probably my favorite band ever, but let's not act like there wasn't plenty of Leif Garrett and Bee Gees to go around in the 70s.

For every Holy Diver, there is a You Spin Me Right Round.

And that's why they make dials on radio players :)

Although, I will admit to enjoying some BeeGees every now and then. I mean come on...How Deep Is Your Love is a beautifully constructed song, if you can get past the characterature sound.

Nothing wrong with some Dio or Maiden. I'm with you thinking that most new music is crap.

Plenty of good music out there today....however it isn't at all on the radio or on 'Music' television...I watched some Telemundo 2 before the USA v Mexico futbol game yesterday and they played some music videos. Of the five videos they played, four used that crappy voice altering effect to make the singer sound more like a robot...that pisses me off

Today's popular music isn't much worse than any other era, really. There's always some good stuff out there....you just have to go find it. If you like Dio, you might want check out Brainstorm or some other European Power metal bands out there...plenty of good stuff out there.

This is true. Lots of good bands putting out good music are out there. You won't hear them on the local radio (around here anyway) though, so you have to search it out elsewhere.

Come on Jon. I saw you driving around the other day with the windows down and I know I heard the new Britney jam blaring in your car.

Maybe I'm becomming set in my music ways, but I hate 90% of the crap that's on 105.1/107.5 anymore.

Heard a cool acoustic cover of Number of the Beast by Zwan yesterday on Channel Q. Totally different spin.

    Hey Jon,

Maybe you should do a "Decades Week" for your and Deace's show where you can play some of what you consider the "best" music for a certain decade each day and talk about the memorable sporting events that happened in that decade.

Just a thought (not a bad one for 7:26am).
