    Who is it for you?

If Derek Jeter tests positive, that's it - ESPN

Who would ruin the game so much for you that you couldn't watch? I agree with Gene... Jeter is on my list. As is Griffey Jr. and Mauer. It'd be a sad state of affairs... the worst state of affairs... It'd ruin it for me...

Griffey Jr I would be surprised, not shocked. Likewise with Pujols. Jeter is the one guy for me, and I am not a Yankee fan. Mauer would be a close second.

Re: Who is it for you?

This pretty well sums up my opinion on it. (I've felt this way for a long time, not just now that Manny and Papi showed up on the list)

Bill Simmons takes in Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz's explanation in a sport that has become numb to scandal - ESPN

From a historical standpoint, this era shouldn't be judged differently from any other goofy era. Stuff happens. It's baseball. Babe Ruth's numbers happened in an all-white league. Ted Williams flukishly missed five full years because of two different wars. Mickey Mantle and Sandy Koufax would have excelled for twice as long with today's surgeons. Now we're splitting hairs with eras?
Baseball fans have lost the capacity to be outraged. You'd need to do something really crazy to shock us at this point. Fix a game. Swing a bat at someone's head during a bench-clearing brawl. Charge into the stands to punch out a fan. Take a dump on home plate to protest a call.

For anything else? Whatever. We expect the worst. We are prepared to be disappointed by any baseball player. It's a sad place to be.

Re: Who is it for you?

I have no doubt in my mind they used "banned substances". In fact, before 2003 I bet 99% of pro athletes took suppliments like Ripped Fuel. I think the NFL was one of the last to ban it, just last year and its still legal in the NBA... So, it's possible these guys would show up on the 104 list for nothing...

Pujols without a doubt. He'll likely be the all-time HR king by the time he's done and I wouldn't want the top 3 HR hitters (The others would be A-Rod and Bonds) to all have used steroids. But after reading his SI cover story from a few months ago, I'm almost positive he never has.

because baseball fans have to have "one guy" that they can base their love of the sport on.

    Good genes maybe?

But think about it; he's a future HOF playing in the biggest media market in the country/world who basically has no blemishes on his record. And he seemingly treats fans, players and media with respect. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
