    Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

    http://www.wissports.net/wishoops/tv...ctid=494751069

A couple of things immediately stand out when you watch Diante Garrett of Milwaukee Vincent compete on the basketball court.

The first thing most people notice is Garrett's length. A 6-foot-4 guard, Garrett has extremely long arms, which enables him to get into passing lanes on defense. Along with UW-Green Bay recruit Bryquis Perine, Garrett is a key component to the state's top defensive backcourt.

The second thing that stands out about Garrett is his ability to get wherever he wants to on the court. He is an excellent ball handler who creates well for teammates and for himself, especially off the dribble. A game rarely goes by where Garrett doesn't "wow" the crowd with his uncanny ability to finish in the lane.

The Iowa State recruit -- ranked No. 2 among state seniors in Wisconsin by Wishoops.net -- is the son of former Southern Illinois and Milwaukee Bucks standout Dick Garrett. He has made substantial strides in his game each year in high school under coach Tom Diener, and figures to do the same at Iowa State under coach Greg McDermott.

I cant wait till Diante gets on campus!!

Re: Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

Great stuff. He can dribble and finish well with both his right and left. He appears smooth and composed. He is slight, but finishes after contact. I know this is high school, not the Big 12, but he looks like a great get by the staff.

I know a highlight reel doesn't normally show this, but I would like to know how he passes and defends. We won't need a scorer at point next year.

Re: Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

I agree, I would like to see him dish- maybe he does, and the purpose of the highlight vid is to show scoring... i dunno. Anyone have any stats on apg's?

I like his length, and his "slightnes" may help him slash thru the lane... looks pretty slippery. quick hands on defense- good first step helps drive the lane, and get out on fast breaks.

a few times they showed him top of key on half court set... and he never once looked to his teamates... ugh. I suppose this may be the nature of HS bball when you're that good. I am confident that McD will work on him. On the flip side- we could use someone that can create off the drive ala Tinsley.

We could use somebody who can get to the basket and finish. His body reminds me of Wesley's minus 3 inches of height.

That Wisconsin post recruit (Nankivil) looks like somebody we could use right now. The Marquette recruit looks pretty decent, too.

Re: Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

Yeah... Nankivil looks like a great recruit! Only downside was handling quick passes to him... but once he has his hands on the ball... goes up strong... and has multiple moves near the basket... and can shoot a jumper...

    Mbakwe looked alright...

Berggren, who I am pretty sure we were pursuing at one point, does not look all that great to me. Good luck to him at Wisconsin... but I don't see any versatility in him. His video showed him standing under the hoop and getting fed the ball... with lackluster finishing moves. He would score off his own rebounds but only because he's taller than everyone else. I think he's going to struggle when he plays big 10 ball at Wisconsin.

Love that video. One thing I really like about him that stands out to me is Diante's ability to change speeds. He goes fast, slows down for a split second, then speeds up again, which confuses and leaves the defender in the dust. That's the difference between him and Mike Taylor.

Re: Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

I like the fact that he can finish with the dunk. That's one thing nobody on our team really does other than Wesley and rarely Clark. He also looks like he has really long arms like Will who was a pretty good defender. I wouldn't mind getting another Will for 4 years.

The one thing I love about him is that he can dribble.

Even more about that, he can dribble, but it looks like he loves attacking the basket....something we haven't had in quite some time....

Is anyone else concerned with his high dribble when he goes against D1 level defenders?

Re: Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

he can definitely dribble and score, but I see a lot of comparibility to Mike Taylor, no proof that he will pass, I think he has a lot better control than Mike, but he seems to do a lot of the same things as Mike does, we need a guy who can see the court and pass, I hope he has that and it just wasn't shown, because we need that more than we need another Taylor for next year, I think he will be better than Taylor and will definitely play, but it doesn't increase my confidence for point guard play! He definitely can create a lot through his movement though and with some work could be a good point guard.

I went to high school with a guy that was gatorade player of the year in Iowa. He never passed in high school. Then he started at point as a freshman for Creighton and he hardley ever shot the ball his whole time in college.

Re: Diante Garett Highlight Video (free)

Garrett looked good. I think we have a solid point guard. Mac wanted him from day one. We recruited all four of these players. Mbakwe looked good, but we have Brackins coming. The future looks good. We still need a big, true center. I hope we can land Negedu (I am not holding my breath) and a big center to finish off our '08' class.
