    Bass Pro Shops - Altoona

Does anyone have any clue when this place is going to open?

When they announced plans last year - I thought they said Spring '09. Obviously that's come and gone.

Time to start gearing up for the fall seasons and I'd rather not do it by mail order.

Re: Bass Pro Shops - Altoona

I'm thinking later this year. Ironically, I know the guy who's going to be managing the store (he goes to my church here in Eldridge). He and his family should be moving out to Des Moines any day now.

FWIW, I thought I heard on the news this morning that it was at the end of the month...the 28th or something like that.

    August 26th and 27th.

And I don't know where you heard Spring of '09. All the websites, both city and corporate, have said fall 2009 from when I heard it was coming.

Now I think about it, it may have just been that tractor trailer with the "coming soon" sitting out in the field before they even broke ground.

Thanks for the heads up to all. Knew you guys would come through.

Some jack-arse my wife works with told her about three weeks ago that it was open and I was dumb enough to believe it.

Perhaps the latter the better. My savings account isn't nearly full enough to finance my wish list out of that place.

I think the "soft" opening is actually this weekend (or next). Assume this is to get everyone some experience/training before the grand opening rush.

That's not open to the public though is it?

Well, I live in WDM - so no biggie really. And she told me this as we were driving my sister and her two girls out to Adventureland. So there was no real wasted trip.

But still cruel. I was probably as giddy as the girls, just a different destination.

I felt like Clark Griswold when he pushed the button on the f'in moose.

Honestly, I think I am avoiding that place until about October...after the opening rush, but before the holiday shopping picks up.

Naw, I'll be there the first week, who am I kidding...

I plan on being the token dude that doesn't hunt or fish, but still wants to go to the store to "look around".

I am not really an outdoorsman at all, but I love these places.

Re: Bass Pro Shops - Altoona

The great thing about these stores now is they no longer cater to the sportsman alone, but rather the outdoors in general.

It'll be interesting to see what they put in there. The Cabelas in Owatana is much, much, nicer than the one in Prairie Du Chien, which is more of a shipping center - so there usually is more stuff available, if not on display.

I have a snowballs chance of getting one, but I'm rather geeked about the boat center out there.
