Re: Mickey's in danger of losing liquor license

I have heard about after hour gatherings there before. When I turned 21 it seemed like Mickey's was the strictest on checking ID's. They would always spend a lot of time looking at my wife's fake ID.

Re: Mickey's in danger of losing liquor license

Mickey’s Irish Pub, 109 Welch Ave., has been cited five times for underage and after hours drinking violations and three times for fire code violations in the past 12 months. The bar’s license will expire on Aug. 28.
Five citations in 12 months? Hell, a bar here in Iowa City just got threatened with losing its license after having over 190 violations in the past 12 months, but the City Council isn't too concerned. Different cultures, that's for sure.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: Mickey's in danger of losing liquor license

If Mickey's was closed during my junior & senior years, I would have missed roughly 97 hot dogs, 46 boxes of pop corn and 28 slices of pizza. If you were broke and only had enough money for alcohol and no gyro at the end of the night, Mickey's was your place.

Good, I hope they lose it. Serves those s.o.b.'s right after charging $10 cover during VEISHEA. That was ridiculous.

Ah, I remember when Davincis lost theirs. It made all of us kitchen crew sad. We used to love to drink in back. =(

For a $10 cover charge there should have been at least a floor show involving a pole.

But $10 for nothing more than just to get into the place? That's bad.

Come on folks, it's VEISHEA. That's a regular night in Iowa City. Personally I hope this place never closes. Always a good crowd.

I used to like getting a beer there. Before I turned 21 Long Johns had beer on tap. I wanted to plan a 21st bday shindig there, get drunk, eat fried food, and ding that bell all night long (Lionel Ritchie style). But they lost the beer like a week before turning 21.

Back in the 70's when Long John's had beer on tap, they were a lot stricter on Sunday beer sales. We used to swing by there on a Sunday afternoon and just buy beer. Once this one guy felt embarassed about it and also bought an order of Hush Puppies. (I think they were 25 cents). I thought that was more embarassing than just buying beer.
