I think the guy on KXNO is wrong.

How could Marry be held to his LOI if Ole Miss can't provide a scholarship? I don't see how he'd need a release. I'd sue somebody if it was the case.

He should automatically be released if they dont take him out of the original 25 and have to re recruit him for a grey shirt, IMO.

You guys assume the NCAA actually cares about a kid's well being and not some assanine interpretation of a rule that lacks common sense.

According to this, greyshirts don't sign a LOI until the following February. So that tells me that Marry's original LOI is no longer valid.

It seems like only yesterday that I read and re-read the LOI guidelines (when Sed signed with the good guys)... I seem to remember it's a two-way street: kid is committed, scholarship is provided. But I could be wrong...

Ole Miss didn't hold up to their end of the deal on the LOI, it's invalid, that simple.

Re: I think the guy on KXNO is wrong.

    wikpedia answer=
Someone taking the greyshirt route does not enroll in college until the spring semester. Therefore, in recruiting, he/she wouldn't be considered a true recruit for that year and sign a LOI until the next years signing day. EX: Running back that needs maybe more than one year to physically develop graduates H.S. in May 2008. Greyshirts, so he doesn't attend college till spring 2009. He doesn't sign a LOI until Feb. 2009 and may or may not redshirt in 2009-2010 season. He is then considered a freshman, but still has 5 years of eligibility left (4 that he can play). So his eligibility to play D1 ball doesn't run out until 2013-2014 season rather than 2012-2013.

    1. they can enroll, just not full time!!
    2. they sign, but they don't go on that years recruiting class, they go next years.

Re: I think the guy on KXNO is wrong.

Has he indicated that he would take another look at ISU, or are we just assuming that since we were close to signing him that he would automatically throw us back in the mix?

At a bare minimum, leave Ole Miss, enroll at ISU, sit out the "mandatory" year (if it actually applies) and get 4 years after next year.

He doesn't want to leave Ole Miss for any other reason that he doesn't want to sit out a year. If he's going to sit out he'd just do it at ole Miss.

Exactly. If he is smart he will realize that at Iowa State he is going to have a great opportunity to be on the field right away. The questions remain...

    A. Is he even eligible to leave Ole Miss without requiring a transfer?
    B. Is he still interested in ISU?
    C. Do we have any scholarships available and if so is it too late for him to get a chance to play this season since we are only 22 days away from our season opener?
