Anyone been to Madison for a game?

I am going to Green Bay vs. Detroit and on the way up we are stopping in Madison for the Iowa vs. Wisconsin game. Just figured might as well check out Camp Randell. Anyone been there? What can I expect from there fans. Is the tailgating good or is it more like Iowa City?

IF you are rooting for the Badgers, you'll have a helluva time. That place is crazy. I haven't been to a lot of stadiums, but it's definitely the wildest atmosphere, inside the stadium, I've ever been to.

I didn't get to tailgate, so I don't know. I went with friends who's son played for Ohio State at the time.

It's one of the better game day stadiums I have been to in any conference. Loud, fun and the fans are overall pretty decent. You'll have a blast.

There is really only one valid reason to hate Michigan football, and that is the fact that we taught Notre Dame the game.

Re: Anyone been to Madison for a game?

    I will be there too.

The tailgating is similar to Iowa City in that it is all spread out yes. But there is a ton more going on around the stadium than Kinnick and State Street is a much better bar area than the Ped Mall.

The atmosphere at Camp Randall is awesome. They cram you in like sardines so it's no wonder they fit 83k in. For a cyclone fan it will be very enjoyable because everytime a Hawk fan walks by a group of students. They surround them and chant "arsehole!, arsehole!" You'll get a warm reception unless you're in black and gold.

Sounds like a great weekend of football.

The Camp Randall experience is awesome!! Arrive early and there are plenty of bars that open just for football games right across from the stadium.

Re: Anyone been to Madison for a game?

The University of Wisconsin may be the premier spot in the nation to have the "total game day" experience. The streets will be crammed full all the way around the stadium. Badger fans are maybe the best in the nation. They have a great time, and will party till the last keg is dry.

You will need to get there somewhat early just to park within 2 miles from the stadium. Side streets are your best bet, unless you pay someone $25 to park. Outside the stadium on the other side of the old fieldhouse is the best place to be in my opinion. There are bars, retauarants, outdoor tents, and a buttload of people.

    Have fun

    Madison+fallXcollege football=amazing.

Tailgate! It is different as it really is a roaming party. Move bar to bar. Carry your beer with you. Bring cash. Wear a Bucky shirt! Wear a wrist bracelet with your emergency contact info.

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Re: Anyone been to Madison for a game?

Hell yea!!! If ur a college football fan, you have to make it to a game at Camp Randall. In November (hell even in October) when there are some snow flakes falling, state street is packed, the beer never runs out and grills are smoking as if it is summer.

So ur going to see Bucky play Iowa...heh...you'll get to see who is the "little brother" in that stadium...

State street in not a better bar area then the Ped mall. State St. is about 10 blocks long and has 6 bars on the whole street. The gameday atmosphere is comparable to Wrigley, where there are beer gardens and bars around the stadium instead of parking lots. To say State Street is a better bar area then the Ped Mall is a joke though. I would know, I live in Madison.

Wear red, drink a lot, hate on the hawks, and watch some football...... It should basically be your usual Saturday routine.

State Street must of changed since I lived there in the 90's. I seem to recall more than 6 bars on Halloween night and especially on my birthday night...you will know what that means if you live there....

Not sure how Iowa is the "little brother". We're 40-41-2 against the Badgers all-time, and 5-5 over the last 10 meetings. Seems pretty evenly matched to me...

Halloween isnt about the bars. It's about the students packing state and partying. 95% go to house parties on Langdon St, Dorms and other streets. The City, Brats, Hawks, State Bar and Pauls Club are the only bars in 10 blocks on State. Wandos, Brothers, lava lounge, vintage, etc.......are on University or some of the side streets off state.

And yet you whine waaaaaay more than Badgers do, and make far more ridiculous statements in regards to games. Following the 'two brothers' analogy, you might be almost the same as your big brother physically, but the emotional maturity sure as hell ain't there.

Anyway, to get back on topic: I'm jealous. I've wanted to go to a game at Camp Randall for quite a while now. I was THIS close to going to Wisconsin, and I still like them a little bit.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Madison is the only place that I would prefer to tailgate over Ames. In my opinion, it's THE best college football environment, #1.

Too bad it's so damned weird there.
