HD DVR from Diretv / weather might have fried it

After our power came back on after 4+ hours our HD DVR bought from Directv isn't working. It has an error message. I reset it 4 times. It says to call them and we are going to, just didn't have time last night. Do you think that if it is trashed they will charge us to replace it? I thought that if equipment was bought though them it was under warranty?

I don't know.......depends on when you got it. My dish network receivers crapped out (because they suck) after the one year warranty period, and I had to pay to replace them. I'm not sure if Directv is the same way. If it's within warranty, and you don't mention the storm, they may take care of it.

My Dish Network DVR did this a couple of weeks ago and they relaced it. The worst part is that the card is probably trashed and all the shows you had taped are probably gone.

If you have them leased from Directv just call them and tell them it quit working, they will ask you to do a red button reset, and then a re-format red button reset, and if nothing works they will 2 day you a replacement. I went thru this with a standard DVR last year and it was about a 8 minute phone call from start to finish.

Is it just one TV or all of them?

With the wind that rolled though, I wouldn't be surprised if your dish got knocked out of alignment.

Ours did this last night too and I called them. The reset button worked for me, but if it hadnt, like for you, they were going to send me a free replacement.

Just 1 tv... and yes, I had a bunch of shows and movies that I will lose. :(

Ripvdub gets off of work at 2:30. I'm going to see if he will call and take care of it. But, I seem to get better results, so.... I'll let you know what happens.

Are the other TVs HD, or is only this one?

Is it just HD channels that are out, or are all the channels out?

The HD channels are much more sensitive to a misaligned dish than the SD channels are due to the satellite and frequency band they are delivered on.

What he said. I wouldn't be surprised to find that the wind blew your dish out of alignment.

NOTHING is working on 1 tv. It won't go past the initial setup that starts when you reset your box. Everything works on the other tvs with boxes.

Re: HD DVR from Diretv / weather might have fried it

If all you did was a red button reset, try pulling the power cord, let it sit for a minute or so, and then plug it back in. If you have it plugged into your network you should also pull the Ethernet cable before powering back on.

My understanding on replacement is that if you don't have the protection plan you have to pay the shipping on the new one (~$20) and it resets your 2 year commitment.

Re: HD DVR from Diretv / weather might have fried it

No reset of 2 year commitment. But, they sent us a new one 2-3 business days. I ******* about the shipping and they gave me $5 off a month for 3 months. They tried 3-4 times to have me buy some protection plan or service plan. The lady that first answered before I got to tech support tried and I was ******. I just kept saying - I just want my HD/DVR to work or be replaced/fixed, I don't want to purchase anything. She kept trying. I'm pretty sure I was not talking to someone in the US either. Frustrating, but in 2-3 business days we will have a new one.

Oh, I am a little miffed that I lost all of my previous recordings. I had some stuff that I'd really like to watch. But, I guess that is what the internet and netflix is for. :)

So what did it cost you? $200?

$19.99 plus tax - $5 per month for 3 months. So around $6.19.
