Reggie Stephens to Center a done deal?

ISU Football Media Day photo gallery

Sure looks like it according to the photo gallery. I was really hoping somebody would move over. Does anybody really have an idea was to how the line will shape up for the first game?

Re: Reggie Stephens to Center a done deal?

Sorry, responding to my own thread. Based on the pre-fall 2 deep, it would be KO, Hicks, Stephens, Lamaak, and Haughton along the line. Honestly not a lot of experience across the line in that case (and a few guys moving positions) but that is a line with a lot of potential and some HUGE size.

KO, Hicks, Stephens, Lamaak, and Haughton:
    349, 346, 333, 318, 338
I am shocked, and actually concerned, that these guys did not lose much (if any) weight in the off-season, especially with the talk of the fast paced, wide splits offense they are going to.
I would like to see these guys play under DMac's smash-mouth football

Check out the size of Texas Tech's OL the past few years.

Re: Reggie Stephens to Center a done deal?

First off, those weights probably aren't right.

Secondly, I would actually prefer they be bigger. With a no huddle, what I assume will be a quick throw offense they don't need to be great pass blockers. They need to be able to carve out holes for the RB's and QB to run through. Just my opinion.

Conditioning may be a problem but that can be the case with anybody over three bills.

I agree the weights probably are not that accurate.
I do not care about size, they just need to be mobile- for both the passing and running game. Wide splits means they will be in space-if they cannot adequately move, that is trouble. My feeling is, if they were that big and mobile, they would not have had trouble last season nor be likely to be at ISU.

With no double team help, maybe they need to be a roadgrader.

I like it. I hope it is true. Stwephens is our best O-lineman and will have the best chance of good productivity at this important position.

Re: Reggie Stephens to Center a done deal?

They need to be effective vs LB's, especially at center - in support of the running game. No worry, Stephens has pulled and moved downfield effectively from his guard position. He will do fine. Hope he stays healthy at this position.

I'm shocked too, but if McKnight has these guys in shape to move in a no huddle offense then Arnaud could put up some sick numbers this season. I guess we'll learn more after tomorrow's practice...

I think moving Reggie inside to center is a GREAT move. Gives me alot more confidence that the o-line will be good. Being able to play multiple positions will enhance Reggie's stock in the draft as well.

Re: Reggie Stephens to Center a done deal?

Not get too excited about weights right now. Their media guide weight is a lot different than what they will be playing at. Even if it is only 10-15 lbs of weightloss during fall camp...that could be the difference in half a step.

I disclaimer this with my personal experience. I would be listed any where from 240-250 in our media guides, but my actual playing weight was 225-230. They need to have some weight to lose through the wear and tear of the season, otherwise it will be muscle loss....from the OL position.

Nice... I like the move. Our line is huge and I think that is an outstanding thing!
