The Blue Jays have reached an agreement to send third baseman Scott Rolen to the Reds, according to multiple reports. Rolen waived his no-trade clause in order to approve the deal.
The Blue Jays will be receiving third baseman Edwin Encarnacion, and it is believed that pitchers Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart were included in the deal by Cincinnati. Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi was not immediately available for comment.
Wow, the Reds finally gave up on Encarnacion, but how much does a 34 year old Rolen have left in him?

The Reds fell in love with the idea of Rolen a little bit ago when they were only a few games out (4 I think). I'm guessing the fams got attached to the idea and management wanted to make it seem like they were still trying...

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer believes the Scott Rolen deal has left the Reds with no payroll flexibility heading into 2010. "That's not good," he writes, "when you need a shortstop and an outfielder with some pop -- among other things."
That ain't good if true
