    Manchester Wolves @ Barnstormers 2nite, 7PM!

    courtesy of the Iowa Barnstormers

    American Conference Quarterfinal
    #7 Manchester Wolves (7-9) at #2 Iowa Barnstormers (12-4).
    Wellmark Field; Des Moines, IA
    Friday, July 31, 2009: 7:05p.m.
The Iowa Barnstormers are making their first playoff appearance since the AFL glory days when they host on the Manchester Wolves this Friday July 31 in Des Moines. Friday night will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.

    Iowa Preview:
The Barnstormers have won nine of the last ten games and sparked some momentum, reaching the 10k mark in attendance this past weekend. The red-hot defense is lead by Tanner Varner, who leads the league with 119.5 tackles. The defense ranks second in the league in rushing defense, allowing only 12.1 yards per game on average. Iowa also has phenomenal special teams, starting with kicker Jeff Glas. Glas leads the league in both scoring for kickers (166 points) and field goals made (21).

    Manchester Preview
On the flip side, due to injuries, Manchester signed former quarterback Brian Jones to squad. Last season, Jones came to lead the Wolves to an appearance in the American Conference Championship after James Pinkney broke his leg in a first round upset against the South Georgia Wildcats. This season, Jones is replacing Mike Potts, who broke the pinky on his throwing hand. Jones also has experience in the AFL as he started for the Los Angeles Avengers in 2007.

I'm pretty sure Varner busted up his ribs last game.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

It will be my first barnstormers game since I was younger and went to a few back in the AFL days.

Manchester's QB, James Pickney, was a one time ISU QB commitment, before he signed with East Carolina.

Man, what a weak looking crowd tonight. I'd be there if not for a prior commitment. Surprised at how sparse it is there for a playoff game.

And they're down 7-0 already. One offensive play for Manchester and a TD on a QB sneak.

They've got Varner's info incorrect, should be UNI, not Iowa.

I will come to your rescue and say when I saw it, my first thought was Brent Curvey played for Iowa State, not Iowa! I also have not been drinking heavily... yet.
