Go to Minnesota and you'll find liquor stores the size of Walmart.

My father's side is from a small town in central Wisconsin, Stanly. It was a simple town, a few neighborhood houses and one main street where the town center activities happened. It's been a while since I was there, but I remember about 20 or so storefronts on the street. At least 10 of them were bars. Hell, I was working behind my uncles bar up there at age 8.

Iowa is #3 in binge drinking behind Wisconsin & South Dakota...i guess that is magnified every Saturday in the fall

We have Binny's here in Illinois. I wouldn't call it Wal-Mart sized, but it's definitely a grocery store sized store.

They don't call em' the Brew Crew for nothing. Yeah drinking at ISU was crazy, hell I was even in a fraternity, but nothing compares to what I've experienced up here.

But what's truly sad, is that about 1 out of every 2 middle-aged men have serious drinking problems. That's something that's engrained in the culture too.

I recommend Lakefront Brewery if you can get ur mitts on it. A fantastic little microbrew here in Mil-town that is gaining quite the reputation.

    Spotted Cow is great though.

Damn right. Lots of Germans, Scandanavians, and Irish. What happens when you blend the culture that invented whiskey with the culture that invented beer? A breed of super-drinkers. We'll drink you under the table.

I was in Milwaukee last September to watch the Cubs play, and our hotel was right across the street from a gas station that had a pretty good beer selection. About 9:15, a friend of mine and I walked across the street to get a 12 pack for nightcap. Walking up to the cooler, I noticed that it was locked. I went up to the clerk and said, hey, I need to get into your cooler. His response was that in Wisconsin, you can't buy package beer after 9 PM. Needless to say, I was dumbfounded.

How else do you get through an overcast winter in Wisconsin without brews? One winter we had an 15 inch snowfall storm in Baraboo. No problem. Drink and be merry.

That's a common county/municipality law. State law is Midnight.

and it blows. Well planned binge drinking is necessary, bc you're not going on any late night runs.
