If you like comedy get on the mailing list for the Funny Bone. Every so often they will send you a postcard/text/ email for free tickets. A drink (or more) is cheap and most times the comedians are pretty good. A great thing to do with another couple or more too.

I suppose most of those things could be competitive activities, too...?

Disc golf, biking, walking, photography, visiting vineyards, exploring historic landmarks.

You can actually play real golf pretty cheap if you walk and play the municipal courses.

9 Hole weekday rates at Grandview is only 8 bucks if you walk. 18 hole rates are 13 bucks.

Blank is about 4 bucks a person more (but a much nicer course).

There's the downtown farmer's market on Saturday mornings, and the one in Valley Junction on Thursdays.

There is nothing more that I hate than fun. Don't EVEN get me started on people who drink!

We always seem to do the movie thing..or tv..or computers. God, I'm turning into Powder from not seeing the sun. Lately, we've been just walking around Ames, at the parks and what not. We also try to hike, camp, find a body of water and lay by it w a good book...whatever gets me outta the house that doesn't have the monetary result of us not affording food, water, getting season tickets, and a beer here and there.

If you have a baseball bat you can go play mail box baseball. Good times. Usually wait to go after dark though. It's harder to see the plates on your car.

When you go to WalMart, shuck sweetcorn and leave it behind for the next guy....

Hitchhike to the next county and back.
Go to a Hawk website and get them going.
Watch the radar on the internet.
    Grow your own flowers.
    Learn Spanish.
    Go to caucuses for fun.
Blow high frequency whistles for the neighbor dogs.
Hang out at the local service station and pick up some repair tips.

We take the dogs to saylorville, grab a couple of camp cahirs, some food and beverages, and a couple of racquetballs to toss into the lake for retrieval.

Things you do after smoking marijuana?

Our best no cost activities are taking the dog for a walk, playing tennis, or riding our bikes. Of course if you don't have a dog, tennis raquests, or bikes, it won't be very easy to do, or cheap to start.

I see you are in Omaha so if you enjoy Blues, there are still a few free shows down at Lewis and Clark landing. The next one is August 15th. Unfortunately you can't bring food or drink in. You have to buy it there and parking down there isn't very good. You can see the remaining schedule and get info by googling Playing With Fire.
