    Ames Aquatic Center

Does anyone know when the new Ames Aquatic Center will open? I move into Frederiksen Ct on August 15 and I'm curious to know if they will open it at all this year. I was thinking it would be open at the beginning of July but I guess I was wrong. I really hope to get at least a few weeks of swimming in since it's so close to where I will live!!

there's really not a parking lot yet, so i wouldn't guess it to be opened till the end of the summer or so... if i remember right it was supposed to be opened at the beginning of last summer...

    Re: Ames Aquatic Center

Aquatic Center won't open in July

    By Jennifer Meyer, Staff Writer

Published: Thursday, July 16, 2009 5:42 PM CDT
The opening date for Ames’ new Furman Aquatic Center is a floating target, but it won’t be caught in July.

Parks and Recreation Director Nancy Carroll told the Ames Parks and Recreation Commission Thursday that she anticipates that the park, scheduled to open this month, may not be ready until the third or fourth week in August.

Further weather delays, she said, could force the City Council to decide whether the expense to fill, heat and chemically treat the pools are worth opening the aquatic center for only a few weeks this year.

Buildings at the new aquatic center are done, Carroll said, but weather has delayed installation of lights and pouring concrete for the decks and parking lots.

    Re: Ames Aquatic Center

It was supposed to open in July. At this rate, even if they get it done by mid August it would likely be too expensive to start it up for that short of a period. I would expect to see it open at the start of the season next year.

No, the original opening date was to be late July 2009. Rain and other weather conditions have made that date impossible to meet. No parking lot, and, the last time I drove by, no concrete approach or walk area outside the pool. My guess is at least Aug. 10 for opening day.

No matter when it opens it will make a profit. Just think for a second where kids will want to go. A place that is nice and new with all the cool stuff or an old rundown pool where their friends arnt?

I live in Freddy now and drive by it every day. They are started on the deck and the parking lot is flattened out. A lot of concrete/landscaping/fencing work yet to do but other than that it looks completed. I'm glad I'm getting out of here before that new stoplight is active.

I lived in freddy in 2002-2004. Where is the center being built?

Northeast of Freddy on 13th between Haber Road and Northwestern Drive on the north side of 13th. The bike trail that goes south from 13th into the park starts at the same place the entrance to the pool is (except on the other side obviously) if that helps at all.
