    Car Registration Stickers/Expiration

I know this is random, but my mom just sent me an e-mail saying she had renewed my car's registration and had the stickers. I won't be moving back to Iowa until the second week of August but the registration expires at the end of this month so the new stickers will have to go on. She doesn't want to mail them to me because we've already had three things she tried to mail me this summer mysteriously disappear en route.

If by some unlucky chance I got pulled over between Aug 1 and when I move back, what kind of violation would it be? A moving violation? Would other states be able to enforce Iowa's registration or even know how the stickers work (is it the same in every state?)? Is it one of those things like if I got pulled over and didn't have my license card on me, but could mail in proof that I have one and get the fine removed/reduced/whatever they do?

I've never been pulled over, but know that people can be stopped for expired tags.

And while I'm on the subject, a PSA: the stickers are stackable, folks! They don't come in funky colors so you can make a rainbow pattern around your license plate

One of my biggest pet peeves... It just looks rediculous

Avoid the problem and have her send everything registered mail (or whatever the name is for when a signature is required).

Don't take this as legal advice, but I thought in Iowa, you had 30 days grace? Could be wrong.

QFT. If your tags say july, you have until the last day of August to get your tags in place. Just have her mail them if she does indeed have them. 3 things lost in the mail? Call me skeptical. FWIW, if you do get a ticket, go to court and show the judge the tags and papoerwork. You'll be let off with only court costs if you behave yourself in the courtroom.

LOL - every time I see one of those, I think they are the same people who couldn't color inside the lines when they had coloring books.

I wonder what a trooper calls in when he pulls over a car with 13 renewal stickers all about the license... "Dispatch, this is 138 - I'm pulling over another Walt Disney!"

I do think you have 30 days. That doesn't mean you won't be pulled over, though. Troopers love to pull over expired tags just to give a warning as it opens the door to check for other violations (like drinking, etc.).

This is correct you won't get a ticket for 1 month, but it still gives the cops a reason to pull you over.

This is true... Mine expire in August and it says right on the letter that I have until October 1st to renew before a late fee is imposed.

A few years ago when our daughter was interning in St. Louis, there were several things mailed (USPS) from us and others that never made it to her. We started using UPS and had no problems.

I didn't know about the 30 day grace period. That's the kind of answer I was looking for. CF always has the answers!

    Re: Car Registration Stickers/Expiration

For everyone's information, apparently the law also says that you are required to keep the car's receipt (the sheet of paper that the sticker came on) in your car at all times, just like insurance papers. I just learned this from my dad today. Don't ask me what the point is, because I don't know. Just one more thing for cops to bust you on, I guess.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.
