    Jack Trice Stadium

Just found this link again from a year or two ago. Hoping this reminds people what the ultimate goals are for facilities. I havn't seen these in a while so I was glad to see they were still on Cyclones.com. It would be nice if these pictures were published and posted much more reminding fans of what we want done, and what needs to be done to reach this goal.

    Re: Jack Trice Stadium

I would really hope for this to get done soon! But I know we are still a short couple of seasons away. We still need to win more games that will fill up the stadiums and would create more donors or the current donors to give more! I hope they start at least working on it before I graduate. This would be awesome to come back to!

I like those gates a lot better than the ones they are doing now. They'll still look good, but those just look a lot more impressive.

    Re: Jack Trice Stadium

We all want this but people don't wanna pony up the money, it takes donors. And donors takes wins. It's a double edged sword, but it all comes back to success. My butt will be in the seats regardless, but I know winning would get those fringers to start acting like fanatics.

I think it will take a project like this to turn fringers into fanatics. Hilton and Jack Trice were not originally built because of superior athletics, but on a dream that we could someday be superior. That time has come and gone for both sports (the eras of Hilton Magic, and Dan McCarney) and the 'next big step' (as Pollard coins it) needs to take place for the next wave of athletic success at Iowa State to take place. The current athletic facilities seemed far-fetched back then, as does the South Endzone project does now. I don't see better recruits coming to Ames with articles such as Tim Griffin's claim of Jack Trice being the 12th best stadium in the Big 12. The phrase 'If you build it, they will come" cannot be more true in this regard. I have a feeling everyone is glad we are playing in Hilton now, rather than the Armory; and, in 20 years once a new south endzone is built, I'm sure people will be very glad we are playing in a 65,000 seat Jack Trice Stadium, rather than a 50,000 seat Jack Trice Stadium. 15,000 extra seats ultimately means more money, and everyone knows that is the name of the game. There are Cyclone Baseball fans out there who would be very happy to see the eventual addition revenue from such a project (ticket sales) going into reinstating the Cyclone baseball program, tennis program, swimming, etc. James H. Hilton's dream was right, but that dream needs to continue, rather than remain in the 1970's.

Try 60K (61K tops), even with two levels in the south endzone, which means a capacity increase of 5-6K, not 15K.

The university says it will be over 60000, but that could be 60001.

JTS needs a lot more work yet IMO. New scoreboard/videoboard is MUCH MUCH MUCH needed.

The press box looks like a cracker box comepared to most press boxes in the Big 12.

The south endzone NEEDS to be bowled in.

It really wouldn't take much to expand it. The big pillars are just stairs, the actually supports needed for expanded it will be like the small ones that barely take up any space on the concourse. Further, the cost of the original press box was around 10 million in 97, I'm guessing we could double it for about that

    1. I agree with the scoreboards and videoboards.

    2. I don't really have a problem with the pressbox because we have the space between the upper deck and lower section full of suites below. The reason many pressboxes look so huge (Kinnick, Mizzou, Nebraska) is because their suites, club sections, and press box are up high because they don't have that 'in-between' section. Those three things are spread out amongst Jack Trice so its hard to really compare it.

    3. I agree with you 100% on the endzone.

Your right Haverhill, to an extent. However, if you have ever been in the press box during a big game, it can get crowded in there. It really should be expanded more.

And we need a second video board for people in the south end zone and the far south side sections to see. How many other Big 12 or other BCS football stadiums don't have a 2nd video board, even if it's significantly smaller than the 1st?

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Nebraska is the only Big 12 school that I know of that DOES have more than one video screen.

    Re: Jack Trice Stadium

Don't forget that right now we have about 45,000 PHYSICAL SEATS. The new endzone will only add 10,000 seats. When the stadium looks like it does in those pictures, it will be about 55,000 in actual seats, and I'm guessing we won't sell the north hillsides. IMO doing something decorative, and not having people sitting in them will make things look much better.

I was wondering if anyone would point that out
