    I80 Construction/Closures

I don't live in Des Moines, and don't really make my way over there, but I need to get onto 235 so I can get downtown. Is the ramp for 80-W to 235-S closed? Would the best way to get to Ingersoll from the east be to take 65-S to Pleasant Hill and go past the fairgrounds?

Seriously - they've been working on that interchange since before I graduated in August 2003. Who the hell lets a construction project for one interchange last for 6 years?

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

    From the WEST?

Just get on 235 out in West Des Moines.

I'm confused. The east mixmaster is a mess. The west is wide open far as I know.

If you're coming from the east, then I think I'd just go to 2nd Ave off I80 west and take it south to 235. The bypass is nice, but swings pretty far south.

I haven't heard that it is closed, but I don't drive it daily. I would plan on taking it and if it is closed, just get of on either E14th or 2nd and go south to 235.

I don't believe it is closed yet...I used it this week. But that detour would work. Actually if you pop on 65S and take the first exit, which is Hubbell, to Euclid to 235 that might be fastest.

Yea, I looked at that, but can't tell what exit/entrance ramps are closed because that whole area is just a mess.

If you're going to Ingersol - I'd just keep going on 80 and take 2nd AVE. 4 lane the whole way through and not many lights.

I've never been a big fan of Hubble. And the detour is probably best if you want to stay on the east side. But since you're heading down town it's all the same IMO.

Edit: That's if the ramp is closed. Certainly take that if not. If it is - just keep going another mile.

Yeah, the ramp isn't closed. Also, I just noticed on that site when you click on the map with the icons if you click on I-80 in the scrolling text above you get a nicer breakdown of descriptions of that actual closures.

And don't forget you can call the number on your cell and listen to recorded updates as well.

Certain things take many many many weeks for time from being ordered to shipped. Also, it is extremely difficults to work on major interchanges between two interstate roads while keeping traffic open. They could have closed the interchange down for a year to do it.
