    Oregon Gov. signs minority bill

Gov. Ted Kulongoski on Wednesday signed the bill that will require Oregon's universities to interview a minority candidate before hiring a head coach or athletic director, making it the first such law in the nation. The legislation takes effect Sept. 27, which is 90 days after the June 29 close of the legislative session, and governs the state's seven public universities. The law has a sunset clause that kicks in Jan. 2, 2020. Patterned after the NFL "Rooney Rule," the Oregon law sought to address the gap between the percentage of minority athletes and coaches in many high-profile college sports. In major-college football, for instance, about 50 percent of the athletes but eight percent of the head coaches are minorities

If we want racism to go away, we shouldn't need things like this.

    This is so completely illegal.

Exactly my feeling. I think the percentage of folks in the US who are actually racist are probably less than 2 percent, but some folks like to play it out like its everyone but the minority in question.

Another things that gets me are those folks out there that dont know the difference between racism and stereotyping. The media is one group that suffers from this.

And I'd say the greater percentage of that 2% are people that actually claim to be victims of racism, such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and what's-the-professor's-name from Harvard...

Oh I love those folks. Stand up and make a name for themselves and not actually help the cause.

You need to hang out in the southern states a little more often.

Re: Oregon Gov. signs minority bill

What purpose do these laws serve in the end?

They inteviewed a minority. Big deal! If someone holds a prejudice they can interview candidates of that minority all they want, and in the end not select one of them for the job.

Just a "feel good" law that means pretty close to nothing.

Depends on which ones. I have been in alot of them for periods of time. Even so, with the millions of americans, it cant be a high number.
