    2008 Gators vs 2008 Lions

Who would you pick to win if they played?

2008 Florida Gators (13-1, SEC Champs, Nat. Champs)

    vs.

    2008 Detroit Lions (0-16)

I think the Gators might actually pull it off..

Lions by 42. These comparisons boggle my mind as to why they are even brought up.

People who think collegiate teams could actually hang with pro teams are the biggest idiots alive. Seriously...you did not just start this thread did you?

The Lions by at least 50. These comparisons are ridiculous.

Re: 2008 Gators vs 2008 Lions

take roughly 12,000 college football athletes and bottle neck them down to about 1,750. Thats kind of a rough college to nfl player ratio. and honestly that ratio isn't even really correct to try and emphasize just how few college kids are even NFL caliber each season. I'd also guess that each year the 300 some kids in the nfl that attend training camps in the august would fall to maybe 150 actually still in the nfl some 3 years later.

Even though the lions sucked NFl-wise they'd bring some size, strength and speed the gators hadn't seen from top to bottom.

Lions would destroy them...I hate these threads..any given pro team is far superior to any given college team.

Didn't we already have this discussion a few months ago with the Ames high vs UI hawks in bball? The consensus was Iowa by 60.

not even close. Lions would win in a landslide. I doubt that Tebow would make it out the first half. The talent difference would be enormous.

Re: 2008 Gators vs 2008 Lions

Lions, easily. How many players on that Florida team got drafted or are in the NFL? Every one of the Lions' players are obviously NFL talent and are on the team for a reason.
I remember somebody saying (can't remember who) that the jump from D-1 college football to the NFL would be like going straight from Junior high football to D-1 college. The level of talent and the speed of play is just so much bigger.

Re: 2008 Gators vs 2008 Lions

I have gone to an LSU (when they had a National Championship caliber team) game on a Saturday night and then to a Saints (when they had a mid to low level NFL team) game the next day (Sunday morning) and the difference in the size / speed of the players and the overall speed of the game is night and day. The worst NFL team would handle the best college team easily.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

No way! NFL players are too fast, too big, and too physical.
