    Des Moines airport

Flying to denver in september, getting 2 round trip tickets out of Omaha for under $400, lower if I wanted to save money by getting up earlier on the return flight.

Tickets with no direct flight of course are around $900 for 2 tickets out of Des Moines. No thanks..

What does it cost to fly out of Minneapolis?

Jeez, what airline are you flying? I'm surprised the prices at Omaha or Des Moines are that high this far in advance.

Flying Frontier on the way out for $75 each ticket, and United on the way back for $1something.

United also charges $15 for the checked bag too. :(

The under $400 out of Omaha is pretty good for 2 round trip tickets really.

You couldn't find a direct flight from DSM to DEN?

I'd try again. Pay particular attention to United.

Sorry--I missed the part about you getting two tickets and not just one. That makes more sense.

    Re: Des Moines airport

Omaha has Frontier and Des Moines doesn't. It is that simple. Denver out of Omaha is cheap. Denver out of DSM is United and is way overpriced because they know they've got ya.

Southwest is occasionally $49 each way...usually not on the weekend though

    Re: Des Moines airport

Whooops, there are 2 non-stops on united and u.s. air which are $500 a ticket.

I know DSM is higher, but it's usually in the ballpark enough that I'll fly out of here.

    Re: Des Moines airport

I just got tickets from Omaha to Denver and back over labor day weekend for 2 people. Cost = $257.40. Frontier there (Fri. afternoon) and Southwest back (Mon mid morning).

I looked from des moines, but there was nothing close to that price. I booked them on Sunday though...and have been watching the prices increase since.

I forgot to check southwest, it's not on the travelocity type sites, thanks for that. :)
    That's actually when we're flying.

    Re: Des Moines airport

I just got a ticket to Vegas for under 200 bucks out of DSM. And I flew the other day to Orlando for under 300.

I bet it only takes 2-3 more hours to drive it than to fly it once you factor in getting to the airport, parking, checking baggage (if you're doing this), going through security, waiting for the plane to board (you're there 45 mins early, right?) taxi, takeoff, flight, landing, taxi, baggage claim, get a car (if you're renting) and then continuing on.

That's if everything goes well and there isn't weather, mechanical problems or crew rest issues to contend with.

    Re: Des Moines airport

My wife and I flew out to CO last winter for $125 per person roundtrip with all fees figured in on Frontier out of Omaha. I'll do the two hour drive to Omaha for those prices.

Found your post a little confusing, but assuming I'm following correctly, I agree. It would take a pretty significant savings to cause me to drive 2+ hours for a flight.

Yeah sorry if it wasn't clear.

If you're going to pack a car up and drive 2 hours so you can spend a minimum of 4 hours dealing with airports and planes, you might just as well keep on driving the rest of the way if it's only an 8-9 hour drive in the first place.

I fly all the time for work, and if I had to drive 2 hours to get to the airport, I'd give up and drive anywhere less than 10 hours or so just to not have to deal with the extra hassle at the airport. It's borderline even for 7 or 8 hour drives even with the airport in my back yard, IMO.
