    Cool Cash For Clunkers

Anyone use this program yet or know someone who has? My buddy has a 1999 Caddy that just died on the side of the road. He may tow it in and put it towards a new Accord or Camry but wondering if he can get the government program credit even though it will be towed in.

    Thoughts?

I think it must be drivable, but who really knows. Just work hard with the dealer.

My buddy was able to get the dealer to sell him a 2009 V-8 Ford F150 for gain of $4500, up from his 1998 F-150 V-6 clunker which looked great. He figured that he could only sell it for $3850. It looked great however. The $1B in the program is going fast.

I sell cars for a living. The program does not start until Thursday. Dealerships still do not have the exact details. I assure all that the $1B in the program is still totally intact.

I was told lase week and the dealer would tell me if my clunker would qualify. I offer that dealers are not waiting around lije the Oklahoma land rush. They are cutting deals now.

This program is a joke and a handout.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

We all pay for this people.

This is coming from a guy driving a '95 beretta with 190k miles and DOES NOT plan to cash in.

    Re: Cash For Clunkers

I have looked into this program to get rid of my 11 yr old SUV that gets 14mpg....I can tell you Clone Luke that a Beretta would not qualify for the program. The program is designed to get vehicles off the road that are older and get poor gas mileage.

I talked with a dealer and they said they are taking deposits on cars now, so you can go in and purchase once the program starts.

The cars are supposed to be in running condition, in the same owners name for at least a year, and insured for a year.

I know what you mean about the handout system. Unfortunately, this country is going downhill fast with all the goverment handouts.

Keep the politics out of this thread.

If you want to discuss the politics of the program, start up such a thread in the cave.

Ok, I can see being opposed to the program passing, but seriously, now that it is passed I don't think stubbornly turning down a good deal you've admitted to paying for either way should be seen as some big badge of honor.

Tell him to just get it running and take it in. It can't cost more than $4500 that they are giving out.

If I hadn't traded in my clunker for a new car a couple years back I would take advantage of this in a second. Only suckers don't take advantage of good deals when they are offered! For all the effort the Gov't takes towards screwing ya, you have to take advantage when they give you a deal!

    Re: Cash For Clunkers

I had thought about waiting and doing this when I replaced my '99 Dakota a few weeks ago, but it didn't seem worth it to me if all they do is junk the vehicle. There wasn't anything wrong with my truck, other than getting 15 mpg, so I'd rather sell it to my dad for half that and know someone is going to use it.
