    Kindle Problems with 1984

Amazon Secretly Removes "1984" From the Kindle - Books - io9

An uproar followed, with outraged customers pointing out the irony that Amazon was deleting copies of a novel about a fascist media state that constantly alters history by changing digital records of what has happened. Amazon's action flies in the face of what people expect when they purchase a book. Under the "right of first sale" in the U.S., people can do whatever they like with a book after purchasing it, including giving it to a friend or reselling it. There is no option for a bookseller to take that book back once it's sold.

I had to read that in high school. Holy smokes was it pushing appropriate for high school with as in detail as they described a couple of the sex scenes. Watched the movie after we read the books and it looked like a cheap porno. I'm actually surprised that many people cared to read it.

    Re: Kindle Problems with 1984

Thousands of people last week discovered that Amazon had quietly removed electronic copies of George Orwell's 1984 from their Kindle e-book readers. In the process, Amazon revealed how easy censorship will be in the Kindle age.
That's unbelievable. I never would've thought that there were thousands of Kindle users, and apparently they all downloaded 1984. Hundreds, maybe.

1984 is an extremely important work of literature. Everyone should read it.

I loved 1984... In fact, I probably should read it again.

Hilarious that it self deleted from the Kindle. Sounds like the Ministry of truth got wind of this.

Maybe it needs to be rewritten in "newspeak"

I don't think deleted is the correct term. Maybe undownloaded?

I think the technical term is "misreundownloaded."

    That is double-plus ironic.

I think what is annoying to me is that they can just remove something from your device, etc. I'd like to see barnes and noble come take a book back that I had purchased.
