    Renting movies from iTunes

We're thinking about renting a couple of movies to put on our iPods for the kids on the airplane. Anyone ever rent movies from iTunes? How much time do we have? Do they stay on the iPod until I sync again?

I have done it quite a bit. You have 24 hours after u start watching the movie and then it expires. I usually rent from red box and then rip the DVDs on to my iPod. It's not legal but it's cheaper.

    Re: Renting movies from iTunes

I did it when I went to Ireland over spring break. I don't know how to rip DVDs so this was my alternative. I liked it because I could start a movie on the plane and if I fell asleep I had plenty of time to go back to where I left off

Magic DVD Ripper - rip DVD to hard drive or blank DVD
You get 5 free trials. If you don't close the program you can use it for free however much you want.

OK, so I rent it legally and I get 24 hrs from first play. I assume at that point it comes out of itunes but it's not coming off of my ipod until I sync again right?

30 days to play it, 24 hrs from first play. Unfortunately it automatically removes itself once your time expires

    Re: Renting movies from iTunes

I used it on the way to PA last year. It's gone 24 hours after you start it. It doesn't wait until you sync again.

Man, if only there were some kind of DVD DECRYPTER that could rip DVD's onto your computer, and maybe some other type of program with a name like VIDEORA that could convert the ripped DVD's to mp4 format. It would be especially awesome if these programs were free with unlimited uses and you could easily find them by Googling their names, and there were easy to follow instructions on their respective websites. I'm sure I'm just dreaming here, that probably wouldn't be legal.

...In the spirit of the post above... It would be great if there was a program to take the encryption off of DVDS. If I had to name one, I would call it DVDFab 5. If there was some crazy way you could turn those files into MP4 files, I would naturally name that program Handbrake. If I had it my way, they too would be unlimited and free.

They sell contraptions at Best Buy that do the same thing for about $50 I think.

Is it in MP4 format? Once you rip it, you gotta convert it in order for your iPod or iPhone to play it.

If it's in MP4 format you just have to open it into itunes and sync your iPhone
