    Our recruiting

Is anyone else concerned that were having no success at getting Iowa kids to play for us? I'm sure Andre Dawson and AJ Derby would laugh at the thought of having ISU in their top 5.

    Wtf is going on?

Coming off a 2-10 season. There's your answer.

Iowa is coming off a bowl game, we're not. Until we can compete, Iowa will have an upper hand in recruiting.

AJ Derby looks to be a Gator, so it is not like ISU is going to lose him to an Iowa/Minnesota. Dawson may go to a Minn/KU/Iowa, but he should not be that hard to replace.
So, I am not too concerned. Iowa has done well in-state the past few years, and did they really impress you in the head-to-head match-up last year? Finish in the redzone, and it is an easy win.

We have to win some games. We've been awful for years now. There are still some good Iowa high school recruits out there.

Winning, Coaches who stick around for more than two years. We do this then recruiting will and should get better it is all about relationships and good coaches which I think Iowa State will establish it takes time not over night.

Plus we need a coach and coaching staff that tries to recruit in Iowa and maintains some relationships with high school coaches. Chizik and his staff didn't care about in state recruits. That damage will take a long time to undo, as identifying potential recruits starts a lot earlier than 6 months before signing day.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

iowa high school football players....SUCK...i would much rather them spend all their time in texas florida and california, iowa athletes can go to iowa because they do nothing there...plus if iowa state played in the big 10 we would have a bowl game every year...big 10 is easily the most overrated conference...we produce maybe 8 DI recruits a year and whens the last time you heard of them winning an award of any kind? or being in the espn top 150 for football?

You're a moron if you believe this, but I am guessing this is just denial.

I will guarantee you that PR doesn't feel this way.

The state of Iowa sends plenty of players to the NFL, the problem is that they all go to other schools. Most go to Iowa. Some are diamonds in the rough that are passed on by ISU and Iowa and go to UNI. A small handful go out of state. But the fact remains that 90% don't go to ISU.

Hopefully PR will change that and challenge Iowa for in state recruiting.

I'm certainly not saying that we only recruit, Iowa because obviously there aren't the numbers to support that. BUT, name one top 30 school that doesn't either dominate (or in the case of larger states, compete well) in their in-state recruiting.

Florida's going to have to miss on a lot of guys before they'll take Derby. His "offer" is contingent on them missing out on players higher on their list - otherwise, he'd probably already be a Gator. They've already got a highly ranked QB committed in a class that didn't really need a QB in the first place. They've also got offers out to 3 other QBs. Chances are, if they do take Derby, they'll be offering him at something other than QB, and AJ has made it well known that he wants to play QB in college. Over the last few weeks Florida appears to have cooled on AJ, and he realizes this. IMO, Derby and Dawson will both end up at Iowa. At first, I gave Iowa a 40% chance at landing Derby, now it's more like 75%.

Stupid thread. You missed Jake Knott? That's "no Iowa kids"?

It's freaking July, for crying out loud...not to mention a brand new staff. Signing day is seven months away.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
    (They just disappear offseason)

Considering they haven't even offered...I'd be more than a little surprised. It's Iowa or Illinois IMO.

No it won't. Iowa HS coaches are pretty forgiving and the ones I have spoken with in our district aren't holding Chizik's perception against the new regime.
