Baseball Writers vote down steroid committee

Baseball Writers vote down steroids committee - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

So will anyone who was in this area ever make the HOF? The fans don't seem to care why do the writers?

Because they are largely arrogant. The same stupid reason they won't vote someone in unanimously the first time when it's an obvious, obvious choice. They have their little club and they control things.

They'll make it but not on the first ballot. Guys like Bonds, A-Rod, and Manny will all eventually get in but their penalty might just be having to wait a few votes before they are in.

It's a complete joke when geeks like Buster Olney, who probably couldn't even lift a baseball bat or break a window throwing a baseball, get to decide who should be hall of famers. Of course, the same idiots still wouldn't put Pete Rose in, and he absolutely deserves to be in so who knows if any of the steroid era players ever make it in.

I think the MLB HoF is largely a joke anyway, but at least they got this decision right. There is no real need to get together and discuss anything, imo.

My money's on Bonds not being voted into the HoF for a very long time, if at all. Bonds has upset a lot of people and my opinion is the writers will hypocritically make an example of him.

A-Rod may or may not make it. The guy is racking up the stats, but he has never won anything anywhere he has ever played, including the last however many years with a team that has a $200 million+ payroll. As of right now he carries the title of "biggest choke artist" (whether he deserves it or not). He is pretty much the most booed player in Yankee Stadium not wearing a red "B" on his forehead. Odds are he makes it, but it's no slam-dunk.

While Manny carries a lot of baggage, of the three guys listed in this thread I think he's the guy that makes it the easiest.

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Isn't the proposal to basically do what the committee already does? I don't understand what this would accomplish.

They are simply trying to establish a precedence or protocol for the athletes linked to PED's.

Shouldn't the protocol just be if the writer wants to vote yes...then they vote.

Yes. I think that's largely where there was lack of interest.

Bonds will be in on the first ballot

Re: Baseball Writers vote down steroid committee

The biggest joke is that writers are the ones voting to get people into the hall. The hall in itself is kind of turning into a joke also, not as bad as some other sports however. I think most of the steroid suspects or users that deserve to get in will eventually get in. They have to wait 5 years to get on the ballot and then are on it for I think 20 years. That will give Bonds, A-Rod, and Manny plenty of time for there to become new writers or for the old school writers to open up their opinion like most of the people that take baseball for what it is now.
