    Reasonable Expectations?

I just wanted some feedback as to what reasonable expectations are for ISU from those with more knowledge (and less) than me. I called every game a north or south Big XII team plays this coming year and made hypothetical standings. I will post my predictions below as to not color the results. Thanks for your input.

Oh if we get to a bowl game or conference champ game this is not inclusive of that, only regular season.

    Re: Reasonable Expectations?

We should expect to beat NDSU, Army, Kent St., and at least 1 Big 12 team.

4 wins. I can't "expect" anything more considering the transition period, but anything less will be dissapointing.

Five of the choices shouldn't even exist for this team.

I think 3 is reasonable, but 2 definitely wouldn't shock me

I'll drink the kool-aid and say that it would be reasonable for 7-5 if we play 4 quarters of football every game.

    Re: Reasonable Expectations?

Count me in the 4-8 camp.

However, it all depends on how we start the year and where our expectations go from that.

If we go 4-0, including wins over Iowa and on the road vs Kent St then 4-8 is far less than acceptable. I would expect us to capitalize on this momentum and swing a bowl berth.

However, if we start 3-1 (loss to Kent St) or 2-2 (Lose to Iowa and Kent St) then 4-8 is pretty acceptable (3-1) and definitely acceptable (2-2).

    Re: Reasonable Expectations?

"Reasonable" and you put 10-2 up there without a disclaimer? In all seriousness, it's tough for me to have any expectations at this point. Last year I saw an offense with the potential to win a lot of football games. And a Defense that wasn't quite sure where the field was. My only real hope is that when we play Kansas this year, we find out how to not let them score 7 touchdowns in one half of football. I expect to hold them to at least 6.

I've given up on expectations and have resorted to hope.

    Re: Reasonable Expectations?

Wow are you guys pestimistic. Come on, do you realize how close ISU was in 4 of the losses last year? I really expect 5 to 6 wins with the schedule that ISU has. There are several very winnable games this year if the team and coaches are just slightly better than last year, which is what we are all hoping for.

I really can't tell. I made a pick just for fun, but I wouldn't really expect it.

Too early to really know. If we can just make a couple more stops every game, the season is more competitive. That's pretty much OK for now.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

It is easy to be pessimistic these days in regards to ISU athletics...but getting off to a good start could change things dramatically!

Expect 4-8 but 5-7 is reasonable and that is the question here

    Re: Reasonable Expectations?

I always expect to beat Iowa. The old beat down days where we realistically had no chance are over.

    Iowa now, is simply overated.

    Ooooooooh Yeeeeaaaahhhh!!

But seriously, I think 5-7 is a reasonable expectation for this team. Like others have pointed out, we weren't too far from a few more wins last season. With a bunch of returning talent and an influx of newcomers, we should be able to match what it took Chizzledick two years to do in just one. But, this is a new system and with the transition will come its' fair share of challenges and thus will probably keep us out of bowl contention (but it is possible if the staff and players can gel quickly!!).

    Re: Reasonable Expectations?

Glad to see most of the fanbase has reasonable expectations. After some of the threads in the past few days (we're going bowling!), I was starting to think some kind of psychosis (cy-chosis?) was sweeping Cyclone nation.

I'm an optimist in most things, but I just can't see more than five wins for a team with a first time head coach and talent-deficient defense.

I agree with this statement. Especially for Rhoads' first year. I'm going to try not to think "we should win this game" or "we can't win this game."

Go. Root like hell. Hope for the best.
