Top Big 12 Upsets in '09

It looks like it's going to be a great year in B12 football. I've been looking through the schedules and as always, there's some potential for some big upsets within conference play this year. I'm ignoring the non-conference for right now, but here is kind of a week-by-week look at what I consider games that could be upsets.

Note: Predicting upsets always gets people riled up, but let's face it, there's going to be some shockers. Also, I intentionally left any ISU games off this list.

    10/10 - Colorado @ Texas
    Upset Potential: Low
Breakdown: Colorado has the best RBs in the conference and the key to winning on the road is usually a good ground game and a defense that can make a stop. If CU can chew up the clock and come up with a turnover or two on D, this game could be very interesting.

    10/10 - Oklahoma St. @ Texas A&M
    Upset Potential: Moderate
Breakdown: A&M has a tremendous home-field advantage and this will be their conference opener. The Aggies are going to come to play and Sherman is in year two and expects better results.

    10/17 - Missouri @ Oklahoma St.
    Upset Potential: Moderate
Breakdown: The 'Pokes knocked Mizzou off last year and ruined any talk of BCS in the process. Don't think the Tigers don't have revenge on their minds as now, the roles here have been switched.

    10/24 - Oklahoma @ Kansas
    Upset Potential: Low
Breakdown: This is a showcase game for KU. If they want the country to take them seriously, they need to shock the college football world and put up a helluva fight in this game. This is the type of game that puts programs on the map

    10/31 - Oklahoma St. @ Texas
    Upset Potential: High
Breakdown: OSU has played Texas well over the last 5 years and this is the type of game that they need to win in order for the BCS to take them seriously. Also, OSU has the talent to beat Texas.

    10/31 - Nebraska @ Baylor
    Upset Potential: Moderate
Breakdown: Robert Griffin is going to need a huge day, but the Bears could win this game. They know they need to steal a few to get into a bowl game, and this would be a signature win for Briles.

    11/7 - Oklahoma @ Nebraska
    Upset Potential: Moderate
Breakdown: Other than the Red River game, this is the B12 game I'm most looking forward to (other than ISU's games of course). This renews a heated rivalry and it could be an ABC night game. On paper, OU should roll in this game, but don't count out Husker nation on this one.

    11/14 - Texas @ Baylor
    Upset Potential: Low
Breakdown: This would be the ultimate shocker. I can't in anyway see this happening, but let's face it, stranger things have happened in college football.

    11/21 - Kansas @ Texas
    Upset Potential: Moderate
Breakdown: This KU team is better than the KSU teams that beat Texas in back-to-back years. The problem though, is that this UT team is a lot better than the UT team that lost to KSU in back-to-back years.

    11/26 - Texas @ Texas A&M
    Upset Potential: Moderate
Breakdown: Can you imagine if the undefeated 'Horns stroll into College Station on Thanksgiving night, national championship hopes on the line, and have to face an A&M squad fighting for a bowl game? I love it!

This. I think nebraska is going to have a good year, but I would LOVE to see them lose this one and see the melt down afterwards. I mean whens the last time baylor beat nebby? This would be like WHEN we lost to Drake. Robert griff... I mean Baylor can do it too. Go Bears.

I don't think we're really primed for any shocking upsets. We have a chance to win several conference games, but the ones that would be true upsets (KU, NU, OSU) are the ones that we really don't have a chance in.

OSU & UT I think will be the best BIG XII game this season

Texas had the best D in the league last year and OSU will have one of the top offenses. I hope Texas wipes the floor with Okie State, I can't stand Gundy. Guys a whiner of epic proportions and he shows no respect to his own defense.

This game is actually @ OSU. Just like at TTech last year this will be the snag that throws the Big 12 south in to a tie breaker scenario for the Big 12 championship and the BCS. (3 way tie between UT, OU, and OSU)
    Here we go again....

I reallly think we win some conference games, I just don't think any of them will be classified as upsets.

I'm praying for some bitterly cold weather when we play OSU. If we're somehow in bowl contention at that point, and the Jack is rocking, it could be a bit of a trap game for them. I could see something along the lines of OU's performance in 2007. That said, on paper, they are the team should beat us the worst. Just looking at the squad matchups, Nebraska is our best chance at an upset, but there's that whole "winless-at-Lincoln-since-the-Carter-administration" thing.

Yeah, we're REALLY good at these negative streaks. I hope we can start putting those to an end this year.

I agree with the high potential of an OSU upset of Texas but I think the single biggest reason UT lost to TT last year was having to play TT after having played OU, MU(much better last year) and then OSU. I do believe UT gets OSU this year after CU, OU, and MU which should be an easier three game stretch (I am by no means saying the OU game will be easy).

BUT, the Mizzou game could be a sandwich game. I can't wait for these games!
