    ESPN Baseball Announcers

I've always thought the ESPN announcers were bad, but last night during the Cubs-Cards game they reached a new level of suck. From the conversation about whether a baserunner breaking up a double play needs to actually touch second base or just be able to touch second base, to going on and on and on about having two Hoffpauirs in the game, they just could not resist beating a dead horse. It had to be the most painful call I've ever listened to.

Agreed. I never cared much before last night. But last night was the first time I actually wanted to toss something into my parents' TV set just to make them shut up.

Between the ESPN game and the FOX game, it was a pretty brutal weekend for announcing during Cub games. Plus no Ron Santo on WGN radio (which may or may not be a good thing). At least Keith Moreland did a pretty good job on color for WGN TV.

I got irritated with Morgan going on and on about moving Marshall from pitcher to left and back.

Did you ever listen to Harry Carey pronounce players names backwards?

    Please, you don't know pain.

I'm guessing you mean the tv announcers. I listened to the radio broadcast travelling from my parents house all the way back to WDM and I thought it was pretty good.

Obviously I didn't get to see the tv broadcast, but I generally like the ESPN callers. And apparently I'm one of the few who likes Joe Morgan.

With Harry, it was part of the act. He was a fan - you or me - that was lucky enough to have a microphone put in front of his face.

Steve Phililps was a bad GM, and he isn't a very good announcer. Joe Morgan tells lies on the air, and no one calls him out on it.

That being said, Jon Miller is an excellent play-by-play man, even if he does over-enunciate the names of Latin players. The other 2 just bring him down.

I don't know, the ESPN guys could use a few Budweisers, a la Harry, to lighten them up.

    Re: ESPN Baseball Announcers

Morgan and Miller are beyond horrible. They are huge Giant homers. And the funny thing is, when Manny got busted for PEDs, they couldn't stop talking about how disgraceful he was and how he doesn't deserve to be in the HOF and how all his numbers will be questioned now. Morgan couldn't stop talking about how unfair it was that Manny got to start playing in the minors 10 games before the "50 game" suspenstion was up as if they just made that rule for him. Anyway, Joe Morgan was the biggest Beroid Bonds schill around when Bonds was under all his steroid scrutiny. And he's so full of himself because he played on the Big Red Machine teams of the 70s. I hate ESPN!

There are two guys on ESPN that are GREAT. I think one is Gary Thorne (does some hockey too) and the other does the College World Series. Either one of those guys and Orel would be great for any game, just keep Phillips out of the booth...

Mike Patrick? Are you serious? That guys voice makes me want to stick the business end of a claw hammer in my ear.

One of the worst decisions ESPN ever made was taking Ron Frankin off of their Saturday night college football broadcast and replacing him with Mike Patrick.

    Re: ESPN Baseball Announcers

The Fox team of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver is the worst in the history of broadcasting. I'd rather listen to the untalented Gumble brother call an NFL game that listen to those two morons.

I didn't mind his old man, but Joe Buck does not want to call a baseball game. His tone is a constant reminder that he'd rather be anywhere on earth than calling a baseball game. Barely a raise of the voice when a big play happens or someone hits a home run, etc. Hey Joe, how about a little energy...snort some coke or something before stepping in the booth, it would elevate you from zombie back to the realm of the living for 3 hours.

Tim McCarver is the worst kind of know it all. His passion is the second guess - the manager, the baserunner, the catcher calling pitch and location. I bet he'd second guess the batboy if given the chance. Tim can't go more than 2 innings without making something up, never mind the things he thought he saw, and won't even back off of it during the replay evidence. Tim McCarver, I hate your guts. Quit.

Too bad these two idiots get to ruin another MLB post season. Give me the ESPN crew over them any day. I like Miller, can stand Phillips, and would gladly put Morgan on waivers in favor of Hershiser. Too bad they can't bring back Harold Reynolds.
