    Most Unrealistic Sports Movie

I'm watching Varsity Blues right now on TBS and Mox just took over after Billy Bob collapsed and Lance got hurt. Later on in the movie, of course all the guys go to the strip club and eventually all the players hold a mutiny and refuse to play for Coach Kilmer in the second half of the Gilroy game and Lance steps in to coach.

Anyway, I've always had a problem with this because where are the assistant coaches after Kilmer leaves? Do they just leave too? Are we honestly expected to believe that all the other coaches leave and the former starting QB takes over as HC? Also, Lance has a headset on, who is he talking to in the booth? Does the offensive coordinator stick around?

The point being, I find this all very unrealistic, and it got me wondering, what are the most unrealistic stories or events in sports movies? Now obviously, we could say Rookie of the Year is perhaps the most unrealistic, but I'm trying to keep this within the realm of possibility. While Lance taking over as HC is unrealistic, it is possible. You get my drift? Anyway, what do you guys think are the most unrealistic events to unfold in sports movies?

Oh, I intentionally left out the part about Mox refusing Ali Larter in the "whipped cream bikini" as well. I mean, obviously this movie became extremely unrealistic after that scene. No man could refuse that.

The whole premise behind Air Bud is flawed.

Little Big League. 12 year old GM? I don't think so.

I always thought it was a little odd that both Angels in the Outfield and The Mighty Ducks were either based on or led to the formation of a team in Anaheim, CA. A marketing ploy by Anaheim?

    Re: Most Unrealistic Sports Movie

I think it was a "made-for-TV" movie...but "The Hank Gathers Story" was absolutely horrible...from the acting the production! I remember the hoops being set at an elementary school height! Embarrassing! How can film companies not hire someone who has an idea about what sports is like to advise them?

    Most realistic: BASEketball

Solid performances all around, especially Ernest Borgnine's (arguably) greatest ever performance as Ted Denslow.

    Most unrealistic: Hoop Dreams

Any movie that casts Isiah Thomas in a somewhat positive or even neutral light has no credibility.

    Disney! $$$

I saw the original "Angels in the Outfield" not that long ago...great to see the old parks in the film. I believe the original was set in Pittsburgh?

    Re: Most Unrealistic Sports Movie

I would have to say Gus is not a very realistic sports movie. Do you really think Gus would've stayed with the Atoms after his rookie contract expired? No, he would've gotten some very lucrative free agent offers and probably would've gone to New York or another large market. I'm thinking if Gus were still playing today, Drew Rosenhaus would be his agent. After all, they're both jackasses.

Oh, sorry my bad. I tend to stop reading posts longer than a couple paragraphs. I just start getting a little bored.
