    this is just ridiculously sickening.

But good thing we kept that dirty dog-fighter locked up for two years.

What's the word on the civil proceedings? I imagine someone is getting ready to take him to the cleaners.

Not that it makes it any better, but they included time already served in addition to the 24 days.

Won't happen, the money exchange was the reason he only got 30 days.

It's a sign of the times that Stallworth has gotten so much credit in the media for staying at the scene, and not running off. Wow.

a big settlement. Which is actually good for the family of the victim, because it sounded like prosecution would have had a difficult time in court.

Well that's something I guess. Also probably saved them the trouble of a long drawn out trial.

Re: Forget 30...Stallworth out in 24!

yeah. Heard something from Casilias on ESPN radio today about it. Apparently in florida there is a distinction concerning accidents with drunk drivers. It is treated differently if the alcohol did not appear to have an affect on the accident. For instance, if you're rear ended while stopped at a stoplight with an illegal BAC, it is treated differently than if you ran a stoplight with an illegal BAC, etc. Sounded like it would be tough to stick in court since the victim stepped out in front of Stallworth in the middle of a 40mph section of road - and that with or without alcohol in his system stallworth may not have been able to avoid the man.

That being said, obviously being drunk didn't help anyone's cause. It's really just tragic all the way around.

    Here's the problem though.

This case is not vic's family vs. Stallworth, its The State of Flordia v. Dante Stallworth. The family did not press charges here.

Punishment in this trial is(well, should) not dictated by what the family feels is appropriate.

The results of this trial is supposed to be the State of Florida attempting to deter behavior like this in order to protect all of its citizens by fighting for an appropriate punishment. Now if Florida feels 24 days in prison is appropriate for vehicular manslaughter, well that's a separate and disturbing issue.

Re: Forget 30...Stallworth out in 24!

    This is how it works.

If you mess up like this or beat your wife or something like that you get a low sentence.

If you get a minor violation you get a big sentence. Kind of confusing.

Was it deemed vehicular manslaughter though?

    DUI manslaughter

Stallworth pleads guilty to DUI manslaughter, gets 30 days in jail

    Doesn't change anything though
