    How about the Dodge Avenger????

Just me with my daily plea for help! Our local Dodge dealer has a 2009 Avenger down to $18,100. As far as size, it looks quite comparable to the Camry for about $4,000 less with similiar gas mileage. Anybody drive or own one?

    Thanks again!!!

Depends on whether you want a throw away (or driver til it dies) car or something you can sell a few years down the road.

You get what you pay for. Dodge stinks. Chrysler stinks. Stay away..... Pay no attention to the sticker price being $4,000 less. Ask yourself how many years you plan on owning it and then look into the "true cost of ownership" over those years taking reliability, residual value and other factors into consideration. I'm guessing the Camry wins hands down.

Go with the Camry. You'll easily get that $4k back in saving on repairs and resale value.

I grew up on Dodges, but I think they're mostly cheap junk today. Do you ever see any of the 10 year old Neons tooling around town? They mostly look and run like junk.

I think the Japanese imports are good but priced at a premium.

If you want a good value, look at Hyundai or better yet a Ford.

Get an insurance quote for it, and Dodge's safety will open your eyes. It did when we thought about it.

Wouldn't buy from Chrysler for the same reason why I wouldn't buy from GM at this point...

I think you may have missed the SNL reference there.

I had a '09 Dodge Avenger 4-door recently as a rental car. Now rental cars are never properly taken care of but the ride quality in it was terrible. I own 2 honda accords and love them but i also like the camry. I'd also consider a Ford Fusion as a friend just got one and it's a lot nicer than an Avenger.

Re: How about the Dodge Avenger????

Are you set on buying new? Just did a little search and here are a few used options.

    09 Camry LE 5K miles $19,900
Multiple 09 Chevy Malibus for around $18K

If you want new you can get the following cars for around $22K after some negotiating.

Honda Accord EX-L (leather and 4cyl)
    Toyota Camry
    Volkswagen Jetta TDI
A few months back Malibus were going for $4K or more off sticker, which is an excellent deal.

It's like any car brand/model - you'll hear good stories and bad stories, see good ratings and bad ratings, etc. In the end, it matters what makes you happy and what works for your needs.

If you plan on selling 2 years, a Dodge or GM probably isn't the car for you just because of the resale factor and the bad press about them. If you are in it for longer-term, it should be fine (maybe spend a little of the savings on extending the warranty).

Oh, sorry. I haven't watched SNL in years. I quit watching 'cause it just wasn't funny anymore.
