Difficulty in recruiting some positions to Herman's offense?

With Iowa getting Scherff, it got me wondering about our new offense under Herman, and whether or not it might be tougher to recruit some positions because of this?

While it doesn't hurt powerhouses like Oklahoma, Texas, or even Ohio State now with their spread attack... I think it might hurt a team like us?

Seriously, if you were a HS senior and dreamed of someday playing OL in the NFL... would you go to Iowa or ISU right now? If I were a parent I would be skeptical of all the off the field issues in IC, but as a player... Iowa has had a lot more success and you are almost assured of getting to a bowl game of some kind nearly every single year there.

Now... throw in the fact that KF has put some pretty decent OL into the NFL... and the fact that Iowa runs a pro-style offense to boot.... and you'd almost be a fool not to go to Iowa ( although as a Cyclone fan my entire life, I could never have gone there.).

So... does the fact that we will be going to this high octane shotgun spread offense hurt us in recruiting the OL position? The best thing for us right now is if more and more NFL teams went to more of a spread offense. Indianapolis is about the closest it gets right now, although New England also runs a ton of plays from the shotgun spread formation too.

Most OL players prefer to run block versus pass block. They'd rather just pancake the guy across from them. In our new offense though... you are almost strictly pass protecting.... even on running plays.

    Any thoughts??

This...you are reading too much into it. Win and the recruits will follow.

    Mostly balony logic.

If Iowa goes 5 and 6 next year and ISU goes 7 and 4, we'll score a lot more recruits and we'll be talking smack.

This is purely out of ignorance, but I hear a lot about Ferentz's track record of putting OL in the NFL. Who has gone (and played) since Gallery and the very good class before him?

75% of the time Iowa is going to win the instate recruiting battle. That is just the way it is for some reason.

Oh, and count me in the camp of winning will bring in the recruits.

I thought that more OL like to pass block cause they dont have to pull or anything. They kinda just sit back and wait for someone to come for the rush to come.

I preferred pass blocking over run blocking 100% of the time when I was an offensive lineman. Pancakes are great and all, but generally you whiff more than you get them.

This is another reason I cant wait for football to come. So I can watch it and so can recruits.

I actually, kind of think you have a point. Not that that was his determining factor, but it definately holds some merit.
