Utah Senator wants Justic Dept to investigate BCS

WASHINGTON -- Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch is calling on the Justice Department to investigate college football's Bowl Championship Series for what he views as violations of antitrust laws.
The top Republican on the Senate subcommittee with antitrust oversight, Hatch made the comment Tuesday after conducting a hearing. He said that it is clear to him whether the BCS is in violation of antitrust laws.
Under the Bowl Championship Series, some conferences get automatic bids to participate while others don't. The automatic bid conferences also get far more of the revenue than the other conferences.
Hatch and other critics of the BCS view that as anticompetitive behavior. Defenders say it simply recognizes the teams people want to watch.

If Utah hadn't beaten Alabama last year would this still be going on?
Does our goverment really have nothing else better to do?

The way this is going how long till the bowls just go back to the old format?

I may want a playoff, but what a ridiculous way to approach it...

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Please keep the politics out of this thread. There is a similar thread in the cave where that kind of discussion belongs.

Re: Utah Senator wants Justic Dept to investigate BCS

Senator Orrin Hatch on the lesser college football teams being blocked out of BCS competition: "This is the haves who are mistreating the have-nots, and frankly, some of the have-nots have had better teams than the haves, and quite a bit better than the haves. I would cite Boise State of a couple years ago, University of Utah - University of Utah was the only undefeated team along with Boise. Last time, Boise didn't even get a bowl bid from the BCS, University of Utah did - they were maligned by the coach down there in Alabama until he got his clock clocked. And, he's a great coach, I don't mean to fault with him, but the fact of the matter is, it was a great team, but it had absolutely zero chance as the only undefeated team in the nation - outside of Boise State - had no chance of fighting for the national championship. That's not fair! The BCS is fundamentally unfair and I don't think there's any real fan of college football that will dispute that
