    HyVee Triathlon on NBC

Just skimming through channels and noticed that the Hy-Vee Triathlon is on NBC and in HD. Some of the commercials they are running for the cities of Des Moines and West Des Moines do a good job of representing the area, and Iowa in general.

I didn't realize the triathlon was such a big deal. I thought it was just something they hosted in Des Moines every few years. Just heard they had Olympic Gold Medalist there. Pretty impressive stuff.

It was an olympic qualifier last year, and is the biggest event in pro tris.

    Re: HyVee Triathlon on NBC

Thanks for posting, I just watched Whitfield win the main event on Saturday. On Sunday a buddy and I volunteered and our job was to follow the medal winners for an hour after the relay event before they were drug tested. We had the 3rd place team, which was Canada, and my buddy had their #1 runner, which was Whitfield but he (nor I) knew anything about him. My friend asked him how he did the day before and he said he won. Obviously my friend wanted to crawl into a hole and apologized profusely, but Whitfield was about as gracious as he could be. I just found out from watching NBC that he won a silver medal in the last Olympics, so the guy is not only a great runner but a real nice guy who could have felt insulted, but was very friendly and humble.
