    ESPN kissing Michael Irvin's ***

Anyone think Michael Irvin is getting a little too much credit?? ESPN is really pouring it on him. He was good, but not the best. Art Monk left out???

Irvin's speech was pathetic. As you may be able to tell, I've never thought much of Michael. Especially his sports analysis.

    Therefore, I'd like your thoughts...

I understand Schlereth's bias to Monk since he played with him, but Irvin getting in before Monk? Give me a freaking break. Show some respect to the elder.

Monk was and is a classy guy (abstaining from self-promotion), and Irvin was busted for coke possession and was known to be a regular at many strip clubs. In today's world of denying people hall of fame status for performance enhancing drugs, why is it any different when it's mind-altering drugs? I don't like Irvin, he should have to wait a lot longer, or possibly shouldn't be allowed into the hall at all.

I never like Irvin either, but based on his number I guess he is deserving.

Re: ESPN kissing Michael Irvin's ***

He shouldn't be left out because he is one of the greatest receivers in NFL history. He was far from a saint, he was far from a decent citizen. But the Hall of Fame is about your accomplishments on the field of play. And that's also why the cocaine doesn't and shouldn't factor into his placement. There's talk of banning those who have taken performance enhancing drugs because they used them to gain an unfair advantage and perform better than they had the ability to without. Cocaine does not fall under that category. If anything, it hurt his performance, and he still put up the numbers he did. I have no issue with your thoughts about Art Monk. But your thoughts on Irvin are just (omitted for fear of trigger-happy moderators). It doesn't matter what you thought of him or think of him, that's not what the Hall is about.

And based on his numbers, Pete Rose should be in...as a player only.

I guess I'm not so much upset w/ him being selected, as I am with the a** kissing that ESPN was giving him. Can't remember which one it was, but they said something to the effect that "never did anyone play w/ more blah blah blah, and leave all their blah blah on the field than M. Irvin"... pfffff.

Be calm my friend. All is well. We have disparaging opinions, but to dismiss another's opinion as whatever expletive you were thinking isn't necessary. Just be calm...

    Serenity now...

Expletive would be much too strong a word.

Mike left it all on the field except for his grass and coke, which he made sure he had plenty of when he was going to "the White House" with his buddy Nate Newton.

But I guess it is what his left on the field that counts...

Cowboy fan here, Michael deserves the hall. period. he put up too good of #'s, and is one of the best to play the position (not THE best, that's jerry rice, but one of the best.) I don't know about leaving Monk out, cuz I don't think they let enough in anyway, so people always gotta get snubbed.

Irvin is a terrible analyst and almost as bad a Deion Sanders was for CBS (ugh), he makes former cowboys Aikman and Daryl Johnston (GREAT analysts) and Emmitt Smith (GREAT dancer) look bad.

So hate or love the guy, he deserves the hall, but I agree he is a not very good analyst and ESPN prolly is just making a big deal bcuz he works for them.

Re: ESPN kissing Michael Irvin's ***

We better get used to the fact that we are in the day of "self promoting" player over "selfless player". Both Monk and Irvin are deserving for their accomplishments but Irvin is in because he is such a "high profile blowhard" about himself.

What ever happened relative to Irvin's being caught with drug paraphernalia in his car about a year ago??

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I dont' really care. Thurman got in and all is right. Maybe it's only fitting that he had to wait until the second time around. Anyone remember the draft? They had the cameras at his house and he didn't go until round #2. Ouch.

It is a little disapointing that a guy with such extremely low moral standards would be recognized by the NFL with inclusion into the Hall of Fame.

I would love to hear the HOF committe's reasons why Monk is consistently shut out of being elected.
