    Recruiting

If you go over to CR right now, there's a LB from Houston that we are in the lead for on the front page.

So I look him up in the Rivals database, and the kid runs a 5.16 forty... and he's a LB!!

So much for going out and getting faster athletes.

    Re: Recruiting

I actually agree that it might be too early to be after this type of athlete. His offer list isn't stellar and his speed is certainly questionable given he only weighs 217.

Oh well...I'll wait to see on the field results before I form a final opinion

    Re: Recruiting

If he is a high schooler and has good height with a decent frame it isn't improbable to put 50 pounds on him and move him on to the defensive line...

Holy buckets! I ran a 5.0 in high school and I was a lineman!

Guys, seriously.... our coaches would not be handing out offers in June to LBs that run 5.16 . It's likely a typo.

I hope so. We've got linemen that can run under that. If that isn't a typo, then I can't understand how he has any offers at all? He has offers from Kansas State and Tulsa.... those aren't bad teams. I just can't believe he could really be that slow?

As posted on CR, this time is from the Army Combine and the surface is a time killer. They said that you can subtract .2 seconds from anyone's time to get a more accurate time. It's safe to say that he is sub 5.0 in the 40.

That doesn't give me much comfort. So he's a 4.9 forty guy? Doesn't do much for me..... sorry.

Basically, it's not a solid number. Nothing more to it really. I don't think that there is any reason to bent out of shape about it. The staff offered for a reason.

At first i was thinking the same thing Clonedude....

But, after looking a lil deeper, somethings not right on this kid - regarding the recruiting services at least....

According to Texas Prep Insider, he's holding a KSU offer and has interest from LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, & Texas A&M. According to their websites, only KSU is recruiting him out of this list. But, according to Rivals, Scout and ESPN, there are other schools looking at him, Texas Tech, Baylor, so if three other big 12 teams have offered, and other elite programs may or may not be looking at him, i'm guessing the guy can play.

I'm not overly worried about it at this time.....

I remember the Coach Pope had some great recruiting ties to the Houston area...maybe he's getting some inside info on this kid.....

I know for a fact that Wally Burnham has seen fast and slow kids at the LB position and has coached some of the best in the business at the LB spot, so if he signs off on offering this kid a spot, i'm guessing here, but the kid is for real - regardless of what the stop watch says he can run in shorts and a tee shirt.....

Show me game speed with pads and "ARRIVING AT THE FOOTBALL WITH VIOLENCE"
And i really don't care what he clocks or how high he can jump!!!!!

And i love the recruiting circuit....but i realize that by the numbers some of the best players in this nation still cannot play.......that tells me everything i need to know!!!!!

Those 40 #s are just plain worthless.

My favorite was Stevie Hicks listed 4.5 forty time when he was a recruit.

Obviously he has some decent speed being All-Conference at a huge Texas powerhouse school.

    Re: Recruiting

i had an ornery one play defensive line with me in high school
that ran a 9.5 in the 100 at the drake relays in the late 50's. he went on to be in the special forces in the army and toured europe. he came back to settle in desmoines.one night in one of the des moines taps, someone kept egging him on and he told them his fists were lethal weapons. the jerk that was egging my friend on jumped my buddy at this particular bar and my friend killed him. my old high school team mate got off in his court trial in self defense. i was about 230 in highschool and was about 10 flat in the hundred.i played blocking back on the unbalanced line single wing and i had much fun in blocking-getting thrown out of a couple of games taking a couple of opponents way off of the field and taking them all the way to the stands a couple of times. my good friend played fullback and we had another kid that ran a 9.4 hundred in the drake relays who was a wide receiver.the two boys who ran 9.4 and 9.4 were right behind clyde duncan from des moine tech high school and duncan ran a 9.3 on that particular day.duncan went on to run track at abilene christain in texas. he was a track coach in a college somplace, but i have lost complete track of him.

I heard CPR ssay that he was not concerned about getting faster athletes any more. He said a speedy defense is no longer the way of CFB.
