    New commit?

I dont subscribe, but looks like there might be. I just hope its not a long snapper or a place holder. Would be nice to get someone on the offensive or defensive line.

Just found it on Scout.com A juco TE it looks like

    Re: New commit?

This is just a feeling, but the potential could be there for this to be a Ron Prince type class. I'm not saying we're going to go out and sign 25 JUCOs like Prince, but don't be surprised if it's a double-digit number.

if that is true, not a good start to "program-building" like so many of us have touted on here......

Yep, JUCO's never worked for Bill Synder either.

    Re: New commit?

If we recruit as many as Prince did we would be in trouble. It is never good to have that many juco's in one class. We will always look to the Juco's to fill spots we need, but to take as many as Ron did would be a bad long term plan. I doubt PR will be doing that.

    Re: New commit?

Bill Snyder was very successfull using JUCO kids. The key is to make sure you fill it in with enough highschool kids so you aren't relying every year on JUCO's like what Prince did.

    Re: New commit?

My only problem with JUCO kids is guaranteeing that they make it to campus and stay eligible. That's where it can bite you in the butt is when these guys can't get their academics in line and they never see the field.

    Re: New commit?

Ya Bill Snyder had a way of dealing with that. Alot of those K-State guys majored in "Social Science" which wasn't even an offered major at K-State at that point. I'm not sure how he got away with it, but with recent findings, I think Mr. Snyder might be a little dirtier than originally thought.

Snyder learned from Hayden Fry who was a well known crook when it came to the rules and bending them. I've never thought Snyder was anything but...

He better be. We don't need a JUCO TE.

But if we want defense, why wouldn't we just go get a JUCO DE or DT instead of a TE?

As for JUCOs in general... I think anywhere in the single digits (0-9) is fine, but I don't like signing much more than that. It's way too risky and really can ruin the future of the program IMO.

Most JUCOs come in not ready to play right away because they lack the strength and conditioning that they need. A lot of JUCO programs don't even have a strength and conditioning program.

I hope to see a lot of beef in this class on the offensive and defensive lines... and some LBs too. It just seems like Iowa keeps signing these big guys on both lines... and we sign 8 WRs, 6 DBs, and a punter. I want to see some big bodies.

It is starting to look that way. Not break the rules, but not exactly follow them either. That K-State program in it's hay day would take kids that couldn't qualify anywhere else, or who no other school would touch with a ten foot pole, and stick them in the middle of Kansas where it would be hard pressed to do anything wrong, and if they did, it was very easy to cover up.
Backfires however when in Tempe for a BCS game. That whole team should have been suspeneded not just Ell Roberson.
