    the term "skill position"

does anybody here think that term is kind of insulting to Lineman or LBs.

The link below shows you that a D-Tackle is definitely a skill position. Look at the clip in there from 0:19-0:31. Dropping into pass coverage is something most D-Tackles can't do.

I've always thought that the "skill" positions were those that touched the football on a regular basis. So.... QB, RB, WR, TE, Kick Returner, and Punt Returner.

I agree though, that all positions require a ton of skills.

That's what a skill position is.

If you watch close enough, you can see Karras playing craps with the center between snaps

    Re: the term "skill position"

As a former defensive lineman and a former offensive and defensive line coach, I've never liked the term "skill position". To me, ALL positions take a certain amount of skill. A wide reciever does not have the same skills that a offensive lineman has or vice versa. No position is more important than another. Thats what makes a team...all positions are equally important and take different important skills.

    Re: the term "skill position"

Some positions require a specific set of skills, and maybe some size.

Other positions require a minimum size level, and a different skill set.

At least that's the way I've always viewed it - but I think it's outdated now. The training regimen and the competition in today's environment is entirely different than it was when those phrases were coined. Are we going to bring PC to football too?

Then, by definition, a center is a skill position.

I would say a center is a skill position because he touches the ball pretty much every play.
