    Final Directors Cup

I know no one cares, but the final director's cup standings were released today. ISU finished at the same place as last year at 58th, that is also 9th in the Big 12.

    Rundown
    #1- Stanford
    #6- Texas
    #13- Texas A&M
    #29- Oklahoma
    #31- Nebraska
    #33- Baylor
    #35- Oklahoma State
    #36- Missouri
    #45- Iowa
    #57- Texas Tech
    #58- Iowa State
    #69- Colorado
    #72- Kansas
    #77- Kansas State

ISU was ranked higher (just below Missouri) until the spring sports were counted. I guess that would be a good thing about having a baseball team again.

It's unfortunate that no one cares. I guess this goes hand-in-hand with supporting coaches regardless of the success they show on the court / field of play. LSU was 9th in the standings...every team they fielded made it to the NCAA postseason.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Dude, I even agree with you sometimes, but give it a flippin' rest.

I wonder how many points were received for WBB and Wrestling... over half of the points were in the winter.

We were usually ahead of KSU, but KU and CU usually finished ahead of us.

    Re: Final Directors Cup

Reinstating men's baseball and men's swimming & diving would help give Iowa State a better chance at competing against other universities that score points for ten men's sports. Remember, points for the Directors' Cup results are scored for an institution's top 10 men's sports and top 10 women's sports. It really puts a school at a disadvantage to field less than ten sports for either gender. The school is already at a disadvantage before the competition begins. Stanford, a university that understands the association between athletic and academic prestige, fields about 33 varsity sports and wins the Directors' Cup year after year because they are able to score points in ten men's sports and ten women's sports.

    2000-01= 54th
    2001-02= 58th
    2002-03= 107th
    2003-04= 123rd
    2004-05= 60th

Director's Cup is nice, MBB and FB still drive the engine.

I thought BVDV was better than that. He stated it himself.

Kind of interesting to note the relative success in the Cup, though, through the rather barren football years of the mid 90s.

Basketball wasn't doing to poorly during those years and we still had baseball and M swimming.

Imagine that - Stanford and their 757 sports wins it again.

    See Pollard's goal #5:

    http://www.cyclones.com//pdf5/41388.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=10700

"Place in the top 50 in the Director's Cup standings by 2007 and in the top 25 by 2011."

    Epic fail. Again.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Considering that we placed in the 100's the two years before Pollard, I wouldn't call it an "epic fail".

edit- three of the four years before Pollard we were near or above 100.
