    In-state Football Recruits

I think it's alarming that we have one kid from the state of Iowa committed to ISUÖa punter. Also, it seems like no kids are leaning towards ISU. Maybe Gene did a lot of damage and will take time to rebuild relationships with Iowa kids. Anyone else find this alarming?

    I don't find it alarming :)

Actually though, this isn't a particularly strong year for Iowa recruits. Other than a few on the east side of the state, there really aren't any ISU fans should feel bad about not having a shot at. Iowa is in strong with Scherff, Hoch, Derby, and Dawson, but other than those 5, there really isn't too much talent for this class.

I do not see any of the big name guys signing with ISU this year, except perhaps Kohler. More bad news to come.

What's alarming, we normally don't have very many recruits committed at this point. I think we currently have 2 and one is from Iowa, that doing pretty good. Like I said, only 2 in June is not unusual for ISU.

Ok, letís not talk about commitments, but how about the direction in which the kids are leaning. The kids in the western part of the state aren't even interested in ISU. Kohler is even sure if ISU is the right place.

Sense I'm not in their head, I don't know how they are leaning, but I'll wait until the season is over to get concerned.

I have said this before, I could care less if we recruit in the state of Iowa. Outside of maybe the top 5 or 10 recruits in Iowa, I would rather see us spend most of our time be spent in Texas and Florida.

What I find alarming is the fact that you are an ISU student, but the Hawkeyes have such a death-grip on you poor mind that it can't even count to five.

You left out the guy who might end up being the best in the class - Morris.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, this class is pretty damn strong for the state. Derby, Dawson and Morris can play anywhere and Scherff, Hoch and Kohler are very solid recruits as well.

    Re: In-state Football Recruits

There is no rush so far at this point for ISU. We usually do not get recruits stacked up this early and I hate to burst the bubble of some but we are on our 3rd coach in 4 years and on a ten game losing streak. Our name will not just command recruits alone. We need to sell them on an entire new product.

I'm not sure why anyone would say this........................Is it a defense mechanism or something for fear you wont, so itís no Big deal?!?! Honestly I donít think most ISU fans realize how many Texas, Cali & Florida recruits coach Mac inked and yet still got the results he did. Furthermore these Texas and Florida kids are all over the MAC, WAC, etc, so itís not like everyone isnít recruiting them already.

If you canít at least compete for some of the best kids in state itís going to be tough grind.

    +1

Recruiting the state is important. That doesn't mean that you can't recruit Texas and Florida, but you have to get the home grown athletes.

    Re: In-state Football Recruits

Rhoads has made it prety clear that we are establishing great relationships with all of the coaches in the state of Iowa. I think he said one of the first things he did was send a coach to every school in this state to get to know the coaches. He also mentioned that if there is a player in good enough to play D-1 football, he will know about them. I'm not too worried about the recruiting so far. Getting some wins this season is more important so we can get back on the map with those good players.
