    Who makes a trade first?

With The Cardinals making a move here in June what area team do you see making the next move? Tigers,Brewers,Twins,Cubs, WhiteSoxs? Who makes it and who do they get?

Re: Who makes a trade first?

I think the Tigers and Brewers will make the 2 biggest trades of the bunch. Twins will do something but it will be low cost and who knows about the Cubs. I think the White Soxs may make a move but it will be dumping some of their own players to lower payroll.

Re: Who makes a trade first?

The Twins seem to have better luck with home grown talent. Last good in-season trade I remember is when they got Shannon Stewart in the 2002 or so, and before that Don Baylor in 1991 (or was it 1987).

Their other moves, in season and out, are usually must less inspired, although picking up Crede this year looks pretty smart.

Well I would say the whitesox, because they have already attempted to make some big moves. But nobody wants to play there.

If Lowell's hip issues don't clear up (he is already most likely headed for the DL) I could see a blockbuster Adrian Gonzalez trade in the future.

Re: Who makes a trade first?

The tigers will go and get someone, but it won't be HUGE... they are fairly solid already, but they could use a bat. Especially since Magglio has stopped hitting.

The Twins MIGHT go get something, but as stated before... it won't be much. It'll be low cost.

The Cubs are a wild-card. They need a bat, but the only "open" spot in their lineup is 2nd base. I think they'll bank on Aramis being their big bat they need when he comes back and will probably pick up some relief help or another starter.

The White Sox will most likely do something, although I don't think it'll be real big either. The Beckham kid has kind of ignited them a little.

The Brewers... they're a wild card. They're playing well, and proved last year that if they think they're in it, they'll make as big of a splash as possible to get it done. Maybe Matt Holliday, maybe a pitcher. They could do something huge, or nothing. I don't see a run of the mill guy going there though. Go big or Go home for the brew crew.

Technically with the Cards already making a move, the next trade is actually the SECOND trade, and not the 1st.

I'm actually becoming more and more of an R A Dickey fan. He has done very well as the long relief innings eater guy and has recently done well as a 7th inning type guy in close games. If he continues to contribute in 7th inning situations and Kepple can settle in as the long relief guy, the Twins pen is in shape to make a run. The LOOGY spot has been more miss than hit, but either Henn gets back on track or Duessing probably gets called back up.

Other than the filler bullpen spots, the Twins probably won't be making a move. They don't need a bat or a starter to make a run. The only weak position spot is 2B, but Gardy is going to keep a spot for Punto/Tolbert as long as they can at least flirt with the Mendoza line.

The Twins big advantages are that they typically are a strong 2nd half team in addition to the starting 5 showing signs of giving them a chance every time out.

The Sox may realize, if they both think they can compete, and CQ ain't coming back anytime soon, that they need an outfielder.

With the Cards getting DeRosa, the Brewers should be in the mix to add one more bat to stay in contention to win the Central.

The Brewers don't need a bat, they need pitching. They can mash the ball with the best of them, but their rotation and bullpen are terrible.

Outside of Gallardo, their starting 5 stink.

Uhh - check your facts in regards to the Brew Crew's bullpen!! Stetter recently got 15 straight strike outs (amidst one single and one error) - he has been impressive! McClung has done well (although he was recently moved to the starting rotation - a mistake methinks) and so has Hoffman (check the ERA on all three of these pitchers). Hoffman has only one blown save & the other couple times he got tagged was when the Crew was already losing. Villanueva has been, at times, really good and at other times not too good.

Now, their starting rotation is another matter & that is where you are accurate!! This is where I think the Crew needs a VAST IMPROVEMENT! Milwaukee's bullpen is not all-world but they have gotten the job done more often than not this year and to call them terrible is a flat-out untruth and just makes you look foolish.

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"
