    Johnny Cash

Just put in his greates hit CD. What an icon!

I can listen to his music all day and there aren't many artists from that era where I can truly say that. Elvis? no. Beetles? no. Cash? You betcha!

That movie Walk the Line which is about Johnny Cash is awesome. I think Phoenix, should have gotten an Oscar for his acting in that one.

He was great. The only country that I'll play at a tailgate.

I would add Willie Nelson to that list but that's about it.

Why is it that Johnny Cash is the only one who gets any respect from you guys? I like his music, but he was far from perfect.

I think they are just going on the music alone.

I would have to politely disagree with you, and watch out, with comments like that, Miller will be man-loving all over you.

    Re: Johnny Cash

I wouldn't even consider Johnny Cash country... more folk, but I guess folk is possibly a subcategory of country. Music majors unite! What genre does Cash fit in?

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

    Folks pretty close.

He sang "Hurt" and that certainly was not a country song.

Aren't we all? I grew up with my dad playing his records (yes, records, I am old). He had some serious issues, but he also had another side that you don't hear about a whole lot.

Johnny Cash's music is country music at its original and intended form. Today's "country" music is closer to pop.

    Re: Johnny Cash

10-15 years ago when Willie Nelson, Niel Young and John Mellencamp landed Farmaid at JTS Johnny Cash came on stage in mid afternoon and all the rays of the sun shown down on him like a cosmic spotlight.

    Re: Johnny Cash

I like Cash but he doesn't hold a candle to Merle Haggard. Their music if very similar but Merle is a much more dynamic musician and song writer. I'm pretty sure Cash would have said the same.

This. There is EXCELLENT country music that has been made over the years, and Johnny Cash is the shining example. True country music isn't Allan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Rascall Flatts stuff, or anything you would hear on a country radio station. Nowadays you have to listen to alt-country (I hate that label) which sounds more like classic rock or folk with steel guitars than it does anything that comes out of Nashville. Cash was ahead of his time, and one of those rare artists that could just command a song once he performed it. Rarely does a recorded cover match the original, let alone exceed it, but JC did it with Hurt, and many, many others. Johnny Cash is one of the 10 best American musicians of all time.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
