    ISU preview (cough, from huskers)

JournalStar has a few videos on their website about ISU, Rhoads, and the K-State/ISU game. Actually it is a fair analysis for coming from husker fans, the video is just a little cheesy. They seem to think that Rhoads and ISU will likely have more success in the coming years, and hinted that ISU will likely out play KSU this year (mentioning ISU will likely start 4-1,1-0).

I didn't appreciate the snickering at the end about the KSU vs. ISU game in Kansas City. I hope we both spank them this year.

They all sounded ignorant, IMO. They would start off decent, then "haha Iowa State v. Kansas State haha, blah, blah, blah".

I made it through about 45 seconds of that. Is that an actual television production? That looked like a bunch of kids goofing around with their parents video camera. Good grief. I would rather listen to Rosie O'Donnell talk about soccer.

Re: ISU preview (cough, from huskers)

While their thoughts on ISU are fairly accurate as far as wins in conference, I can't believe even a husker fan could watch that show.

More laughable is the fact that Nebraska fans think their program is on par with Texas and Oklahoma still, when in fact they're not even on par with Texas Tech and Ok St. The prospect of them even winning the north isn't good since the uprising of Missouri and Kansas.

Personally I think the Huskers should just go back to the old triple option offense. Now that everyone in conference is copycatting the TT spread, the defenses won't be good at stopping it.

I agree with you....but I suggested that ISU give that a shot (because I agree that it would work in a Big 12 where defenses are keying on the spread) in the below thread and got torn apart. Georgia Tech is one of my favorite teams other than Iowa right now because I love to watch the triple option...honestly, if ISU started running the triple option, they would become one of my favorite teams not named Iowa also.

People seemed pretty confident that the triple option wouldn't work today....and I disagree with that sentiment entirely. It is an offense that is predicated on execution and coaching more than it is talent...thus it would be a good fit for a program like ISU, where blue chip recruits are pretty tough to pull in. Why try to recruit the same guys Texas, Kansas, TTech, etc. are recruiting when you could be picking up guys for an option offense that don't fit well in a spread system? A lot less competition in recruiting that way.

Re: ISU preview (cough, from huskers)

Nebraska never actually ran a "triple option offense", they had a run-based offense that incorporated some option but they were never what you see from Paul Johnson or the service academies. I would guess that Nebraska will never return to the offense they ran under Osborne as kids want to play in the NFL and that type of offense won't get most of them there, it wouldn't surprise me if they evolved to a more physical type of spread team. Last year there were essentially two offenses, a spread, but also lined-up with two TEs and ran the ball at times. NU friends of mine believe that offenses like Urban Meyer runs that incorporate the QB as a run threat would have been the natural evolution of Osborne's offense if he would not have retired and I would expect him even while AD to add some thoughts to the current NU coaching staff. If you notice, they aren't recruiting Tommie Frazier type QBs but they are recruiting QBs now that can run to some degree, unlike when Callahan was there.

Husker fans realize their days at the Top of College Football are LONG GONE, never to return.

Now, all the Huskers have to look forward to are beating Missouri, Kansas, Iowa State, Colorado or Kansas State. They know that Texas, Oklahoma, or Oklahoma State will smoke them if they are fortunate enough to win the North.

"Triple-option" simply means that the quarterback has the option to pitch, run themselves, or pass. So you are correct, Nebraska quarterbacks didn't pass.

Triple option actually means the option to give to the dive-back or fullback, pitch to the running back or have the quarterback keep it.

Oh I wouldn't write them off. Their athletic foundation has a lot of money to spend and that usually means good teams eventually. Obvious tradition and past National Championships to pull in recruits with.

Actually it will be healthier for everyone if they do improve and the rest of the Big 12 North improves with them ie: SEC.
